Finally, we get this one night at grannies, I know it’s because mum and dad are working late
but it’s worth it. As we approached their house I could see how exited they were to have us over,
even if it was just for a night. “My grand kid, you’re all grown when I saw you last you were this
tall”. I could hear grandpa utter this from a distance but that was just who he was. He could tell
you the same thing just hours after seeing you. Some say it’s an effect of memory loss common
to the elderly. “Grandma you look great”, were the only words I could utter. Her smoky gray hair
was growing longer as the days go by; her milky watery eyes were a good evidence of the years
she had lived in is world.
She had this angelic smile that portrayed the innocence of her generation, her weak and
fragile voice just wanted me to hold onto her evrytime I visited. As we got in the house I could
see that grandpa’s white hair were getting less and lesser on his head, his aged blood flecked
eyes were still betraying him since he still had a problem in differentiating between my sister and
I, though he still had that pleasant smile that am pretty sure has done a good job in gluing my
granny at his side for all these years. His trembling but flattering voice has always made us
comfortable every time we came over. As they walk I could see the unsteadiness in their strides
which got me worried. Yes! That sweet old unique smell that only exists in this house, I love it,
it’s like you could smell the number of years these two have been together.

After dinner it was time for the “sit down”, this is what we call our story time. It’s always the
best part of each visit and this time it was all about their love story, they had promised to tell it to
us in our next visit and here we are. Everyone moved to their favorite spots, grandpa moved to
where granny was seated with their favorite blanket he covered her. She answered him with this
beautiful smile that exposes all the wrinkles that covered her face. As they debated on whom to
tell the story we could see how much they still were in love with each other, there was no love
lost between them. Finally, grandpa won the lottery. “Your grandma, my beautiful wife, was the
best thing that ever happened to me. When we met I was only twenty-five working as you know
am very had working. My wife here was only twenty-four. Am right? We knew we were meant
for each other and needed no five years to prove that after two years of dating we decided to get
married of course she said yes to my proposal and I even took her for her gown fitting”. He
turned to grandma and whispered something into her ears, and she smiled and kissed him on his
fore head.
“Sometimes I have to remind her how much I love her girls. The wedding dress we picked
was the most beautiful dress has ever seen your grandma on, baby it was and is still amazing on
you”. My interruptive sister couldn’t wait to interrupt. “Which one of them grandpa? The last
time I checked grandma had two weeding dresses?” “The one your sister can’t wait to get
married in. the beautiful one. Back to my story girls. On our weeding day I got up so early, I
guess I was the first one in church, I wore my dark blue suit and girls I rocked it. I waited for my
bride for six hours I wasn’t impatient because I was sure that even if I was going to wait for ten
hours I was leaving the church with her as my wife and that’s all that matters.
At around three past midday, I got this all from your aunt Caro that your mum had just gotten
married to my late best friend Sam you’ve probably heard about him. I almost took my life, at
