INTRODUCTION
Criminology is referred to as the study of a crime from the perspective of society. It is not
he just the study of crime in general sense, but shows the impact of the crime on the society, the
reasons of it and the people who are behind the commission of the offence. The main focus of
criminology is to tell what makes the person to commit such crime or the act which is of criminal
nature (Musu and et. al., 2019). It is a very broad study which provides as to why some areas
have more of the offences and how these affect the state of mind of the victims. In simple words,
if anything deals with criminals, victims and crimes, it is covered under the ambit of
criminology. This essay shall be based on the topic crime.
MAIN BODY
Crime can be defined as the illegal act which contains the punishments by the legislation
of the government. It can be said to be the gross violation of the law. It does not have any
specific definition though there are statutory definitions provided for the certain purpose. It is a
category which is bring created by the law or in other words, it can be said that something which
is declared by the applicable or relevant law. One such definition is that crime is an act which is
not only harmful in nature for the individuals but also for whole of the community, state and
society. These acts are forbidden and also punishable by the legislation.
Crime is considered as the major area of the political and public debate wherein it is often
overlooked as the sig n of underlying issue in the society which relates to the social deprivation,
inequality, social class, gender, race and age. It includes different types of activities like theft,
assault, robbery, fraud, murder, rape, corruption, etc. (Musu-Gillette and et. al., 2018)
Some examples of the harmful act shall be rape, murder, theft, etc. which are prohibited
worldwide but what is precisely a criminal offence, is prescribed by each country’s statute or
law. The government of every country has a power to restrict severely the liberty of any person
for commission of the crime. In order to look at whether an person has committed any crime or
not, there is a procedure of investigation which are required to be adhered to in order to identify
as to whether the person has committed any offence or not. And if the commission is done by it,
the state provides the punishment for such act which is sentence.
