CRITICAL REFLECTION
Reflection on experience in the workplace in terms of the knowledge gained
Learning is essential for every individual at workplace, whether it is an IT company or a
care home (Benozzo and Colley, 2012). I served as a carer in Bankhouse care home which was
found in 1989 which is located in South Wales. This is the place where supports which are
related to physical, psychological, emotional and spiritual to residents can be provided. Main
focus of attendant under these type of care home is to provide quality services to people who are
suffering from dementia, amnesia and so on. I performed my duties on an aged person, whose
age was around 65. Person had so many diseases which made him upset and irritated. By this, he
started feeling disgraceful that why he is living in this world. Here, it become essential for me to
locate areas by which I can make him happy and stress free. At workplace, while serving to the
man I have learnt that it is really very hard to understand what exactly their needs and wants. I
analysed that, one of the major cause is depression that people suffer from different types of
diseases. It is important for me and for every individual to give their first impression to their
clients in the best way. With the help of this, I can make a good relations with them which will
aid me understanding their situations.
A problem which was faced by me while providing proper care is that the mentally
disturbed person was not ready to listen and to hear the suggestions that I was giving to him.
Which hampered the situation he tried to hit me meanwhile, I had to call to my supervisor. At the
same time when I saw the way in which superior was treating my client, I felt in both the ways
like sympathy towards person and relieved that situation is going to get handle in a short period
of time. But at the same moment, client got angry on me and on my supervisor as well. In this
scenario, I determined that listening can help person in many ways if he is willing to. It has also
been analysed by me that communication plays a vital role under this sector. I need more
improvement in my communicating skills so that I can make my clients understand in a better
way and treat them well. Resident used to eat by his own but sometimes I need to look for him in
days where he felt more disgraceful. After that, taking him to an outer area, have words with him
about his family and friends, giving him opportunities in which every single person will listen
what he is trying to convey are some of the supportive activities that are being done by me.

Knowledge which was gained by me while providing services to my client is that it is not
easy to give proper care to clients or to fulfil their requirements. Under this, proper examination
should be done by management of Bankhouse Care home of residents health. Away from this, I
can use various tools and techniques in order to give satisfactory services to client. Updated
technologies is also an essential element should be adapted by these type of care homes. I have
learnt that better understanding of people's requirements may lead outer person get attracted
towards them. Along with this, I also found that, working in groups may help in getting more
suggestions to resolve issues in an effective and efficient way. In United Kingdom, providing
well sort of services to consumers is the main aim under this type of sector (Colley, 2012). I have
learnt that with the help of this, management of Bankhouse care home can pull attention of other
people in a huge number. Lastly, government makes policies and provide funds to these homes
in order to give quality services to their clients. Many opportunities which I have examined that
can be given to consumers like, rooms according to their needs, proper diagnose of clients bodies
from time to time which will help nurses in order to change medicines if needed, stipend can also
be provided to them if they likes to work like, watering the plants in garden. I have also
examined that training and development sessions should also be conducted my managers of these
care homes. With the help of this, they can improve their skills and knowledge in order to better
serve residents.
Graham Gibbs Model:
I have located that this type of exemplary can help me in best ways in self learning. In
1988, Professor Graham Gibbs proposed a model that can aid person in better understanding
situations which can experience by him/her in a regular manner, Mostly, people learn from
situations which are not good for them. Some of steps under this model are mentioned beneath:
1. Description: Under this, my coach can ask to the me about the situation in a proper and
detailed manner that I am facing.
2. Feelings: At this step, I can express my feelings and my experience to my coach so that
better determinations can be made.
3. Evaluation: In this phase, motivation can be given by my coach to me and he also looks
which approach will help me in bettering the condition of mine.

4. Conclusion: Second last position where, evaluation of state of affairs can be seen where
my coach can guide me throughout whole scenario and give me suggestions by which I
can resolve issue of mine.
5. Action: Implementation of various can take place under this phase which will help me
out in pulling up outcomes in effective manner.
Reflection on learning experience in the context of the workplace environment
Healthy environment is essential at every single healthcare institute that plays a important
role in grabbing attention of most of clients (Dewing, McCormack and Titchen, 2011). Customer
may feel more comfortable in living for days if he feels safe. I found that, taking suggestions
from other staff members may lead to enhancement of knowledge that will help me in locating
issues of clients in an effective manner. This can aid me in resolving problems in an effective
way and by this a healthy relation can be made with clients. I have learnt that, cooperative
working style is also very helpful and effective at workplace and away from this, in order to
better serve resident of Bankhouse Care home, working together can lead me and my team
members to hit targets in a limited time span. Distribution of work in an appropriate manner
among staff members can improve relation in between workers (Fuller and Joynes, 2015).
Regular, T&D programmes are the best way which I have found by which management can
improve productivity of every single individual. Under this, manager should keep on examining
production which has been given by their employees in order to understand where exactly they
need training (García-Peñalvo, Colomo-Palacios and Lytras, 2012). As a carer, it is important for
me to locate my own areas in which I am strong and weak. Powerful points of mine may lead me
to give proper support to my clients. I also need to locate tools and techniques by which I can
improve my weaker points so that improvement can be made.
Literature review
According to view point of Colley, (2012), business environment is said to be dynamic in
nature because changes in policies, techniques, technologies can be faced by management of
every single organisation of various sectors at any moment. Thus, it becomes vital for
administration to keep on researching marketplace so that effective decisions can be made in an
appropriate manner. Along with this, they also stated that in care home it is essential to take
reviews of their clients or residents in order to enhance their satisfaction level and by this belief
of users can get enhanced.

By this, I can improve my skills and knowledge by which I can better serve to my
people. Better and health environment of a workplace in this type of sector can keep up the
loyalty of both employees and clients. It is essential for me to understand all the policies which
are related to employment that has been set by government in regards to provide health and
safety at workplace. By this, I can better understand behaviour of Bankhouse Care home in order
to achieve goals and objectives of my own. Learning is a necessary part as without this,
productivity will won't get increased of mine. Away from this, motivation can also be given to
individual in many ways. Mainly, in terms of monitory and emotionally are two types which can
be considered by healthcare institution in order to motivate its employees (Littlejohn, Milligan
and Margaryan, 2012). I found that proper utilisation of this may bring many sort of inventions
among operations of Bankhouse Care Home. I have also analysed that motivated staff members
every firm wants to get because they feel that with them many innovative ideas and creativity
can come across in their mind which will improvise working style of companies in order to gain
competitive advantages at marketplace. Environment can become more cooperative when
workers of Bankhouse Care home will start working in groups. It is essential for me to look into
areas in which my colleagues are good and what mistakes they are making thus, it will help me
out in making decisions in bettering the situations of mine at workplace. Learning from mistakes
is the best way to become more effective from me. Thus, this pushes me towards to become
more optimised at workstation.
Management of Bankhouse Care Home, should adapt new tools and techniques in order
to give best experiences to residents of house. Here, I can help to administration in many ways
like researching marketplace that what other rival companies are using. With the help of this,
management can create favourable conditions for this firm. I have concluded that adaption of
technology at the right moment may aid Bankhouse Care home to improve its productivity.
Away from this, I can use a reflective model which is a process by which continuous learning
can be done. In health care sector, patients and clients do comes with different diseases and with
various mindsets. Thus, it is important for me to study human behaviour in order to deliver
services to them as per requirements. In this context, I am going to take can example where a
client has diabetes and it can be control by me with proper percentage of insulin and reducing
stress level. Here, it is essential for me to learn about diabetes by which I can create favourable
conditions for client.

Government of United Kingdom, takes care of its citizen in a proper manner. Information
which are related to them and their personal details stays confidential. They cannot afford things
like leaked information as people may come in danger. Thus, it is important for me to locate all
the laws which has been by government of UK and by this I can also make my client aware if
he/she is not aware about them. In previous years, I heard a news in which staff member of
hospital started threatening the patient with the aim of extortion. After that, legal agencies made
laws in which person who is doing extortion may get behind the bars. Therefore, it is necessary
for me to keep the information of my client confidential so that person can live a stress free life.
Away from this, it is important for management of Bankhouse Care home to keep details which
are related to diseases that residents have. I learnt from the scenario that, employees can keep
interest in their jobs if they get proper environment. Their quality of work can also get enhanced
by healthy environment.
Thus, I acquired knowledge in this that for me it is essential to cope up with other staff
members in Bankhouse Care home so that conflicts do not get increases. Along with this, it is
important for me to keep on interacting with every single individual so that communication skills
can be enhanced.
Nursing and Midwifery Council:
NMC is a public healthcare department which has been made by government of United
kingdom. Under which registrations are being done of nurses and midwives. Along with this,
they formulate standards for them in order to bettering the conditions of education, training and
performances of them.
Evaluation, analysis and importance of effective team working inclusive of service users and
carers
Bankhouse Care Home, it is essential to have talented team members as they play vital
role in operating business in successful manner (5 Important Reasons Why Teamwork Matters!,
2018). I have found that if a squad is effective in nature than they may hit targets in a shorter
period of time. In modern era, taking and giving suggestions became an easy part in teams if
relations are good in between subordinates of a team. With the help of this, effective decisions
can be made in order to give quality services to consumers. In healthcare department, delivering
services to clients with quality is an essential part and in this an effective team can easily
understand needs and wants of their clients. Away from this, it has been located by me that

management can also improvise efficiency of a team by giving them proper training in every
single quarter. In these sessions, requirements of consumers or patients, knowledge of new tools,
techniques and technologies can be given in order to better learning. By this me and my team
mates of Bankhouse Care home's can better serve to residents of the association.
I have also analysed that National Health Services(NHS) has made many Care Homes in
all over United Kingdom in order to improve living standards of citizens of nation. Along with
this, NHS keeps an eye on ethical and quality issues, which also considers accountability
informed consent, confidentiality, practitioner client relationships, respect and dignity of their
people so that every thing can get run in smooth manner. Locating at various aspects which are
related to giving better quality services to clients is the main focus of home care.
Henceforth, it has been concluded by me that management of Bankhouse Care Home
should keep on looking at areas in which residents are having problems and resolve them as soon
as possible so that relationship can be maintained for a longer period of time. Apart from this,
competitive advantages can be gained at marketplace by understanding needs and wants of their
clients and customers. Along with this, learning is a continuous process in healthcare sector
which can help me in comprehending the situation that clients are going through. It has also been
summarised that working in a team can help in hitting targets or achieving goals in a specific
time of period. By this, I can see that Bankhouse Care Home can create favourable conditions at
marketplace which will help them in gathering clients in a larger number. Away from this, carers
should keep on making alterations in way of serving to their clients. I have experienced that
management of time can also be done by working in a team. Innovative ideas of a squad may
bring smarter ways through which services can be given to people who are in need. Influencing
power and good communicating skills of mine can help me in giving suggestions to my clients.
With the aid of this, long term relationships can be made with them. Lastly, I saw that training
and development programmes should be given to employees by management of Bankhouse Care
Home from time to time so that skills and knowledge can be improvised of team members.
