INTRODUCTION
A data insight is the activity through which an individual gathers the data or information
and then analyse it to withdraw some meaningful information from that. As in the case with
business, for them information is the key. They collects the data about various factors like
company's performance, data related to employees motivation, the trends and preferences
running in the market by customers and much more. Through the analyses of these information
and data a lot of meaningful conclusions can be formed. These conclusions later are useful for
forming the various strategies for businesses (Trinh and et al., 2019). The data insights can be
used for business management also. Through the examination of data the various strategies and
goals could be formed by the organisation. The goals may include the short and long term which
can be set by any organisation through these data insights. For reference purpose this report has
taken an example of a company, Unilever. It is a British multinational company which is
engaged in the business of manufacturing the personal care products and the products related to
food.
This report discusses about the introduction of digital distribution, role of data in
analysing as a term of business tool, types of jobs which are includes in this sector and the skills
which are required to get into this profession. Apart from this the report also includes a
questionnaire which could be set for research professional researching.
TASK
Data description
Data description refers to the changes which have come due to the increase in the use of
technologies in the businesses and by the customers. The data description in manufacturing
sector has played a major role. The machineries used in the manufacturing units are becoming so
advanced that they all has the ability to produce the large units of products with the minimum of
time and cost. As in the case with Unilever company, the increase in the development in
technologies is pushing the industries to adopt these innovative machineries and technologies as
they help them in bringing the effectiveness in their operations. Also the products which the
manufacturing industries are making for the customers are also very advanced that it now has
increase the demand of innovative technological products among the customers (Hank and et al.,

2018). The manufacturing industries analyse that whether their operational performances,
customer satisfaction level, feedback about the products, units produced, quality of products and
so on can be only be analysed through the data or information collected. The data or information
about the performances, feedbacks, customer satisfaction level and etc. is stored with the
organisation, these information is later used by them in examining the true effectiveness and
revenue generated by these factors.
Role of data in the context of manufacturing industry
To remain competitive in the market and attain growth in the same, the manufacturing
industries are now using the data and information. Through the proper analyses of these data or
information the major strategies could be formed. The data and information gathered or collected
could be used in many various. Some of the usage with regard to Unilever company may include
calculation of effectiveness, bringing the required improvements in the performances of the
organisational technologies, forming the models of businesses, and etc. that can be included in
the below presented points:
Saving cost: The data about the company is analyses through which the cost about the
company which it can incur in a particular period of time can get analysed. The data or
information which are collected in relation with the cost can get examine properly through which
new strategies and goals could get formed (Harold and et al., 2016). For example, through the
data gathered about the cost, the manufacturing company can compare the cost with the previous
cost or the budgets set by the company. Through which they can analyse the areas where the
improvements are needed.
Insights about the process: Through the insights about the data or information collected,
the manufacturing company can analyse the operational process which has been used by the
company. The insights would help the organisation in knowing about the operational
effectiveness. The data can get compared with the standard set and also from the past
performances of the company. As in the case with manufacturing industries, the efficiency of the
organisation operational machines can get analysed and examined through these data (Caulkins,
and et al., 2018). If the data about the performances of its machineries are not up to the mark
then necessary steps or actions needs to take so that the performance gets match with the
standard goals.
