Danger of using mobile phones, Facebook and social media
In the modern society mobile phones, internet and social media has impacted the culture,
social life and other diverse aspects. Smart phones have enabled people to create their own
micro culture and individuals are isolated from the society. It is a danger for students in
educational sector as students waste their precious time by updating their status over social
networking sites, play online games or texting. It is one of the distractions in the education
sector; it was found that students misuse smartphones for cheating or searching for answers
(Jung & Kim, 2015). It has also increased the issue of bullying and hazing in classroom by
capturing wrong images and videos and future blackmailing them.
According to a survey it was found that almost half of smartphone users are suffering from
some health issues due to access use of it (Sarwar, 2017). Keeping the mobile phone close to
the body can be dangerous due to its harmful radiations. Excessive use of mobile phone at
young age can cause eye sight issue (Blondell, Robertson, Brindis, Papanastassiou &
Bradley, 2017). Additionally, it is very awful to say that even adults are found addicted to
the use of mobile phones as they spent hours on their gadgets. Facebook and other social
media have caused serious psychic problems as nowadays people are dependent on smart
phones for doing their everyday task (Kuo, Pannuto, Hsiao & Dutta, 2014). They can be
seen as mental elevators that have overtaken the useful functioning off the brain. People do
update their personal and sensitive information on Facebook and other social networking
sites; this can cause an issue of security breach. As, cyber-attacks and cybercrimes are
increasing the information stored over these sites can be misused (Sarwar, 2017). Apart from
that, social life of an individual has been drastically impacted by the use of smart phones
(Sarwar, 2017). It was found in the survey that people do not go to sleep before checking all
their social media sites. This addiction has adversely affected the family connections by
bringing up frictions in their lives.
Thus it can be clearly said that mobile phones has sizeably impacted the society in all the
aspects of life. It is true that smart phones are bringing up new capabilities and features in
the society that have helped an individual but the excess usage of these gadgets are proved to
be dangerous (Sarwar, 2017). Thus, it can be concluded that mobile phones have changed
society in a negative way. Mobile phones cause a distraction for children in classrooms,
drivers on the road, and they can be addictive. Some other negative effect of using mobile
phone is they get disconnected from the family. Thus the main motive is to concentrate on
