Explain What Data Sets Are With One Example
A data set is an organized collection of related discrete items of information into logical
records and block structures. The information in the data sets can be easily manipulated by a
computer. The data set can be accessed by an individual or managed as an entity. An example of
a data set is the Uniform Hospital Discharge Data Set (UHDDS) which is specifically used by
hospitals that provide healthcare services to people covered by Medicare and Medicaid.
Explain the Importance of Data Sets and Code Sets/Classifications
Data sets are very essential in the acquisition of health information. According to
Raghupathi and Raghupathi (2014), data sets play a great role of improving health outcomes and
reducing cost. Researchers, policy makers, insurance companies, health professionals, and
patients use data sets to obtain meaningful information without being frustrated. Data sets are
also used to enhance collaboration of healthcare professionals, government agencies, insurance
companies, as well as the care providers. This helps in improving the quality of healthcare, safety
of the patient and efficient exchange of electronic health information. Code sets on the other
hand are used to submit claims for compensation from the insurer.

data sets/terminologies/classifications.
Data sets, terminologies and classification must be consistent and uniform all throughout
the world so as to ensure effective and accurate communication (Monsen, Honey, & Wilson,
2010). This enhances the foundation of interoperability. However, if the healthcare providers do
