Running Head: Reflection on my decision making style3 Introduction Modern decision making requires flexible application of decision preferences across contexts to meet the needs of a variety of tasks. It is important for one to review their decision making styles in order to come up with decisions that are of higher quality, effective and have a positive impact for them and their community. After conducting a self-assessment on my decision preferences, I was able to identify the ways I could be more flexible on my decision styles. The following is a summary on my strengths and weaknesses in making decisions after reflecting on my decision making styles. The summary also includes development strategies and changesthat I view will improve my decision making. Insights into my decision preference test results After completing the decision style instrument, I was able to identify the values of my decision preference. I discovered that am a highly intuitive person as I place a great deal and trust my hunches in making decisions and analyzing problems. My mean rating is higher in using intuition when making a decision. In terms of logic, I prefer using my logical thinking in analyzing my problems and making decisions. The value of my logical thinking is mid-range. My balance mean value on the other hand is also higher. Am an individual with strong interest in the implications that my decisions have on others. Reflections on my decision styles from my diary After a week-long analysis of my decisions by noting the important choices I made during that week in my personal diary, I reflected back and was able to find out my thoughts and feelings when am making an important decision. My review helped me realize that I prefer acting on decisions that feel right over those that look right and my emotional responses will matter when handling problems. Am however less objective in justifying my decisions to other people as I trust my gut feelings when am making decisions. People sometimes find my choices to be illogical and advise me to be rational when making my decisions. Am comfortable with my decision making styles as it helps me in completing my tasks smoothly and ensures efficiency in my work environment. A feedback on my decision styles A feedback I obtained from the four scale rating of the MBTI test helped me identify my primary type. The test results highlight that am more of an extravert in my behaviors when making decisions. The scale shows that am medium in extraversion. In terms of sensing, the scale rates me as an individual with a high personality of applying intuition when making decisions. The test result also show that am a person who is less likely to apply judgment when making decisions and am more of a thinker who thinks deep before ending up with a decision. The opposite of my primary type decision traits is also highlighted from the test. My shadow type results from the test is; an individual with less introversion in decision making, am also a person with less preferment to using senses in decision making. I also do not perceive my decisions or put much feelings in them either.
Running Head: Reflection on my decision making style4 Strengths and Weaknesses of my Decision Type The strengths of being an ENFJ type are; being highly tolerant, allowing one to listen to other people’s opinions even when they do not side with them. Another advantage is being reliable as ENFJs try to make sure that they do not let anyone down and they can be counted on to deliver (16Personalities, 2018). Also, ENFJshave a charismatic personality that assists one to capture an audience. Being less judgmental allows one to pick the mood of a crowd and motivate them with passion and emotion regardless of the situation. A major weakness of my decision making type is sometimes one becomes too sensitive leading to worrying about problems that are beyond your level. If a solution I bring up does not work, it leads one to feel that they are not doing enough to solve the particular problem. Self-Development Strategies After identifying my decision styles, I did some research on ways I could improve on them and learnt several development strategies including; making space for reflection so as to build on my intuition and reflect on my experiences. To be able to grow the trust of my gut feelings, I will have to create time into my schedule for reflecting and meditating. This helps to hear the insight that comes from inside. Getting involved in creative activities also builds the trust of your hunches(Pai, 2017). Engaging in activities like drawing and writing allows one to listen to their gut more and minimizes listening to the cognitive mind. Being less certain will also improve my decision making personality(Rankin, 2018). As a person who is often overconfident with each step of the decisions I make, I tend to believe in the results that follow. Becoming less certain will allow me to be open to any implications that arises from my decisions. Asking for other people’s opinions and brainstorming on an issue before making a decision will also improve the decisions I make(Frick, 2018). Working together and exchanging ideas leads one to make a decision that benefits the majorityin most cases. People are happier if they are involved in the decision making process especially in matters that concern them. Conclusion and Recommendation The self-assessment was an eye opener in my decision making process and was really important in learning new ways to approach the choices I make. After realizing the type of behaviors, emotions and feelings that drive me to arrive at particular decisions, I can now work towards improving on the strategies that will enhance the decisions I make. Trusting my instincts, collaborating with others in the decision making process and putting my mind to carry out creative tasks are among the methods that will improve the decisions I make. Reflecting on one’s decision making strategies is a benefit to themselves and the community around them as it helps an individual to make better choices by identifying their weaknesses and trying to change them to be strengths in the decisions they make.
