The Institute for Sex Research (ISR), also known as the Kinsey Institute, was founded by Dr. Alfred Charles Kinsey in Bloomington, Indiana on April 8, 1947. The institute aimed to study human sexual behavior through research and experimentation. Initially, Kinsey focused on collecting data from interviews with individuals, but later encouraged his staff to engage in sexual experiments. Despite facing lawsuits, accusations of Communist activities, and loss of funding, the institute survived and exists today as the Kinsey Institute for Research in Sex, Gender, and Reproduction.
