Abstract: Most organizations uses EPBX for telephony
communication. This type of telephony communication has
been replaced by IP-PBX which is easy to design and
implement
Keyword: IP-PBX system
I. Introduction
To install a phone system, one needs to assess
the needs of the organization and then choose the desired
solution. There are two choices when implementing a
VOIP system. One can either install an IP voice system
or Private branch exchange (IP PBX) which handles all
aspects of the phone system. The paper will show how
one goes about installing VOIP PBX phone system.
II. Rationale for the project
Most of small organizations uses Electronic
private branch exchange system for telephony
communication with all its internal workers. Such
system uses a lot of maintenance work. This can only be
avoided by changing telephony system to IP-PBX
system where the users will be able to be connected via
their laptops or user desktop computers through a
software referred to as softphone.
III. Project goals and objectives
This project involves delivering two major goals which
are:
How to about design and implement a IP-PBX
system for a small organization
How to go about configuring a IP-PBX system
IV. Deliverables
A. Five types of PBX design
1. Hosted PBX design
Hosted PBX is one type of design that provides
all features and functions of a standard PBX
system without having a managed on site. In here
an external provider manages the system off the
organization premise and delivers the system via
the internet. This is as shown below

2. Managed PBX type of design
This type of design condenses the organization
network to a more thoroughly manage and controls a
business’s IP box. As shown by the figure below the
design integrates LAN and WAN
3. Session Boarder Controller
This is a type of design that is implemented by
those organizations that sits between public and private
network. As shown by the diagram below, a SBC allows
different parts of a network to communicate via SIP
message
4. Sonus SBC type of design
This is type of design where Sonus SBC
1000/2000 work as the man in the middle between a
legacy PBX and PSTN carrier. This is as shown by the
figure below

5. Cloud hosted IP-PBX design
This is a type of design that manages calls from one
phone number. This is a shown by the figure below
B. VOIP PBX solution
IP PBX is a telephony system which provides
telephone calls over IP data networks. In here all
conversations are sent as data packets over the corporate
network [1] . Figure one below shows VOIP PBX
solution with over 30 users

C. Server hardware requirements
The network will include IPPPBX server that will
consist of Intel Atom board. In addition, the server will
be of 500GB hard-disk, super cool cabinet, CD-ROM,
and 2 GB RAM. Also the server will include a dual
Ethernet card and one static IP which ought to be
provided by the internet service providers [2].
