1 Definition of concept of environment in early childhood settings
The child surrounding have great impacts to their health and the developments both physically
and emotionally, therefore the physical environment in early childhood influences the child’s
growth and development.
The environment in the early childhood is the physical components that are laid in the area that
the young children grows, works, learns and also plays, this includes the things that the child
encounters in their childhood lives.
The environment is able to influence the child’s mentally and emotionally and also their physical
health, the early childhood environment provides the children with emotional, cultural and
learning environment as well.
Below are the quality area 3 and the early learning outcome in the early childhood settings.
1.1 Quality area 3-physical environment
The quality area three refers to the physical environment and it majorly ensures that the physical
environment of the children learning is safe, suitable and is able to provide variety and
diversified experience in order to promote the learning and developments of the children.
The environment designing, equipping and organizing is the major determinant of how the space
and resources get used which as a result maximizes the children engagements, positive
experiences and inclusive relationship.
Below are the designs of the physical environment.

Standard 3.1 Design This refers to the facilities designs to ensure the services delivery is
done appropriately.

Fit for purpose This is ensuring the Out-door and in-door space, building structures,
fixture and fitting have suitability for their purposes where each child is
accessible.

Up-keep This is ensuring that the learning Premise, furniture’s and equipments are
with safety, cleanliness and are well maintained.
Standard 3.2 Use This is where the environment has inclusiveness, promote
competences and support the exploration and the play base learning.
Element 3.2.1 Inclusive-
environment
This is ensuring that the Out-door and in-door spaces are well organised
and adaptive in order to support each child participations and enable the
engagement to every child in a quality experience in both built and natural
environment.
Element 3.2.2 Resource

learning
This is to ensure that the resource, material and equipments allows
multiple uses, are well sufficient in numbers, and enables every child’s
engagement in the play based learning.
Element 3.2.3 Environmentall

This is enduring that the service is caring for the environments and also
support children in order to make them have responsibility about the
environment.
