Premier- in is a British hotel chain and is one of the UK's largest brand name having
more than 72,000 and 800 hotels and has diversified its hotel chain in various other countries.
The company was incorporated in 1987 with the name Travel Inn but was renamed in 2004 as
Premier Inn. Business environment Is dynamic in nature and there are various changes which can
affect the operation of the company. It is observed that with the fast growing competition in the
hospitality industry and instability in the economy (Zhou, 2019). The internal environment of
the company is affected by the marketing strategies and its organisational structure. It is seen that
decline in the demand of the hotel creates problem for the company to operates its business for
example during the lockdown the hospitality industry suffered huge loss due to various
restriction imposed by the government. The professional designated as executive housekeeping
supervises the activities of the housekeeping staff and other cleaning workers of the hotel. The
responsibilities and duties depend upon the size of the company but main responsibilities are
taking care of the budgeting and balancing it, purchasing the materials for the suppliers and
inspection of the rooms(Doggrell, 2020) The role of the executive housekeeper involves the
preparations of the schedules of the staff working under the superior and make sure that the staff
is available when required. Apart from this, they are responsible for continuously monitoring the
performance of the housekeeping staff . The executive housekeeper is also responsible for
maintenance an repair of the rooms and ensure about the cleanliness of the room in order to
provide comfort to the guests arriving at the hotel. The person should have good decision making
skills and problem solving skills which help in resolving the issues and problems of the guests
arriving at Premier Inn.
The executive Housekeeper is the head of the housekeeping department of the hotel and
manages all the housekeeping operations and ensures that the preferences of the guests are
accomplished keeping in mind the objectives and goals of the company. the head of the
housekeeping department creates the standard operating procedures for operations by
considering the standard hotel services. They also ensure to solve the problems of the guests and
also maintain the standards of the hotel. It supervises the subordinate staff to maintain hygiene
and safety measures keeping I mind the needs and preferences of the guests arriving at the hotel .

Executive housekeeper or the director of the housekeeper is the head of the department
and manages all the operations of the housekeeping department. Thy are responsible for
providing high level of conform to the guests which help in achieving highest guest satisfaction
and also boost the productivity of the company. They are also responsible of creating operational
procedures for the operation department keeping in mind the standards of the services provided
by the hotel . They are responsible for supervising the maintenance and also the housekeeping
staff. An executive housekeeper should have expert management skills in order to manage the
housekeeping staff so that no conflict arises between them. They should also effective leadership
skills motivate the staff members and encourage team work among them. As an executive
housekeeping I they should have deep knowledge about the accounts in order to manage the
budgets of the department. It is important for have good communication skills and active
listening skills which is required to have in every job role . By having proper communication
skills helps in communicating not only with the staff of the department but also help in dealing
with the guests and understand their preferences and render services accordingly. It is very
important for a person designated on any position to manage their work and accomplish the task
in a specified time period. So looking at this they should have effective time management skills
that will helps in achieving the task assigned in less time and can educate my subordinates the
benefits of having these skills. The director of the housekeeping department should have
effective decision making skills as sometimes there is a situation where it is important to take
decisions quickly and it is very important that they should be capable of taking decisions and
solve the issues and problems of the guests and subordinates which can benefit them and also
helps in increasing my ability to take important decisions in the future.
It is very important to have these skills in order to maximise guests satisfaction and to
boost the productivity of the company. The executive should focus on improving these skills
which help in achieving higher position in the company and also gain more enhanced knowledge
that will help in future.
Question 4
Reflection
Being a housekeeper of Premier Inn organization is not an easy task for me because I have
face various challenges at the start when I have joined this organization. It means, my supervisor

always expects from me that I perform my duties on time or in effective manner. At the starting
stage, because of the lack of understanding and organization skills, I am unable to clean guest
areas and back of house on time. But due to my highly responsible and reliable nature, I am
somehow able to manage the work Not only that, I also able to work cohesively as a part of my
team because of my strongest team-working and collaboration skills. Further, I have also
analysed that with the day to day learning and practice, now after some time I am able to perform
my cleaning duties with following all safety and sanitation policies (Abraham, 2022). Further, I
am also able to perform some additional duties as well because I can manage my work on time.
Beside managing my whole work on time, I also face difficulty in preparing reports which I
need to show to my supervisor or higher authority (Kaufmann and et.al., 2021). I always get late
in reporting my work report to my supervisor the impact of which they always scold me in front
of every one. This is basically happening because of the lack of knowledge of how to prepare in
report in correct format. So, I have contacted one of my colleague which has helped in preparing
my report in short time and also present in best way to supervisor.
Question 5
Every person wants to achieve higher position in the company which is important for
attaining future related goals and for personal development. In future I aspire to become assistant
manager of the hotel and supervise all the subordinate and small departments of the hotel. In
order to achieve this position I should focus on achieving the required qualification for being an
assistant manger . It is very necessary for me to enhance my knowledge and skill and should be
good in written and and oral communication skills which will help me in interacting with the my
subordinates and solve the problems of the guests. I should focus on gaining knowledge which
will help me in building leadership skill in me and provide effective services to the guests. I
should focus on managing the work pressure and stress by understanding the task and focus on
completing it minimum time period. It is very important for me to manage and coordinate with
the team members and report to the manager which will help in delivering good image . I should
focus on achieving the organizational skills so that I can create a favourable working
environment which help in creating good environment in the company. It is very important for
me to manage the time for achieving the task assigned to me so that I can manage m other task
which will enhance my time management skills and can perform multi task skills.

CONCLUSION
From the above report It can be concluded that in order to achieve the goals and
objectives it is very important to have skills and knowledge about the goals to achieve . In order
to reach to that position an individual should have effective communication skills, leadership
skills which help the person to interact with their subordinated and understanding their decisions
and resolving in the ,minimum time period. The report summarize skill audit and personal
development plan in order to identify the skills and find ways in order to achieve the

INTRODUCTION
Project Management is basically a process of delivering something value to the people with
the use of specific skills, knowledge, tool and techniques. The assessment two of the report will
cover the planning and management of Guest Security System within the Premier Inn
Organization of UK. Premier Inn organization wants to implement Guest Security system such as
CCTV, Fire alarm, Vehicle security etc. within their hotels for the safety and security of Guest
and customers (Ahmed, 2019). This assessment will also discuss the project life cycle and its
five stages or phases. Lastly, the assessment will cover the Gantt Chart and reflection using
SWOT theory.
Aims, Objectives and targets
Aim:
 The aim of the project is to implement Guest Security System within the Premier Inn
Hotel in order to provide safety to Guest and improve their guest experience.
Objectives:
 To improve guest experience and customer retention rate by 15% within the next one
year.
 To increase profit margin of Premier Inn hotel by 10% within the next one year.
 To complete all the activities of guest security system project in the pre-determined cost
of £150000 and within the time frame of 6 months.
Targets:
The target of the present project of installing guest security system such as CCTV, fire
alarm, vehicle security, advance surveillance technology etc. within Premier Inn hotel is to
enhance the experience of the guest. To make them feel safe and secure during the whole time
when guests stay within their hotel. With the help of this system, the hotels also want to increase
their customer retention rate and profit margin. Safety and security is basically one of the most
important measures with the help of which the organization can able to retain its loyal customers
with themselves and attract new customers. Basically, the target of increased profit margin by

10% and customer’s retention rate by 15% wants to be achieved by Premier Inn hotel in the next
one year which is only possible with the implementation of guest security system within the
organization (Bondarenko and et.al., 2018). That’s why hotel has also set target to complete each
and every activity of this project within the time frame of 6 months in order to enhance the
loyalty and experience of guests.
Project Life Cycle
The project life cycle is basically including the steps which a project manager need to
follow in order to successfully manage a project from start to finish. The project life cycle
consists of five stages such as initiation, planning, executing, organising, monitoring or
controlling and closer. Each stage of project life cycle which project manager of Guest Security
System projects need to fulfil and deliver valuable project to Premier Inn are as follows:
Initial Phase:
This is the first phase of project life cycle which involve the identification and setting of
project objectives and needs. During this stage, an appropriate response to the needs are also
require to be evaluate by the project team. For example, the guest security system installation
project of Premier Inn hotel objective is to improve customers experience, increase customer
retention rate by 15% and profit margin rate by 10% within the timeframe of one year or
budgeted cost of £150000 (Nijhuis, Vrijhoef and Kessels, 2018). The list of activities that project
manager and their team need to do during the initiation stage are setting objectives, milestone
planning, budget development, assigning role and responsibilities of each team member etc.
Lastly, allocation resources to each team member with the help of which they can complete their
tasks or activities. Here, the project manager need to get approval on its work or project from the
client i.e., Premier Inn.
Planning Phase:
This is the second stage or phase of project life cycle which cover the breakdown of
larger project into smaller tasks, building team, preparing or developing schedules etc. after the
project is approved by client. For example, in the present project of guest security system
installation within Premier Inn, the project manager after getting approval from organization
breakdown the large project into smaller task. In this, the project manager has developed timeline
and schedule of each activity, segregate the teams etc. This stage also involves the identification

of stakeholders such as guest which largely get affected by the security system installation
project. Basically, the project manager has invite various proposals from suppliers indicating the
price the supplier will charge for installation of CCTV cameras, fire alarms, emergency power,
lock with flash memory, guest’s elevators etc. within the hotels. Further, hiring security guards
for the safety and security of guest is also cover in planning phase. In order to install security
systems, the project manager need to hire staffs and also explore sponsors. This is also a part of
planning phase.
Execution or Implementation Phase:
This is third stage or phase of project life cycle which cover the list of activities a project
manager and its team need to do in order to implement the guest security system in the Premier
Inn hotels. In simple term, after getting approval, developing plan and building team, the project
manager need to put the plan into action. The execution stage basically turns the plan into action.
For example, in order to execute or implement the guest security system within Premier Inn
hotel, the project manager need to select and finalise their supplier. After that, project manager
and its team will arrange and conduct a meeting with the supplier, Premier Inn management and
other stakeholders. During this stage, the project manager of Premier Inn hotel also market or
promote the guest security system installation project on social media sites such as Instagram,
Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc. in order to attract the guest towards their hotel. This is one of
the best way to spread awareness regarding the hotel that Premier Inn manage the safety of
guest’s material from theft (Owusu and et.al., 2019). Thus, in order to complete the whole
project successfully execution stage is quite significant.
Monitoring or Controlling Phase:
Monitoring and controlling is one of the most crucial stage of project life cycle which
involve the analysing the performance of the project. During this stage, the project manager need
to monitor the tasks and activities and identify whether the project is on track or not. For
example, in order to monitor and control the guest security system installation project, the
manager has first identified the flow of activities. After managing the flow of activities, this
stage also involves monitoring of utilization of budgets. It means monitoring whether the cost of
project is above than estimated budget or not. Further, the project manager has also set the key
performance indicators with the help of which they can monitor the performance of the project.
Monitoring the quality of security system installation, monitoring risk is also cover in this stage

only because without monitoring and managing quality of project, the project manager cannot
complete the whole project in successful manner (Kerzner, 2019). Finally, during this stage, the
manager of the project has also prepared the back-up plan which they can utilize in case of
failure of plan. This stage basically one of the significant phase of project management life cycle
without which the successful completion of project is impossible. Before closing any project, it is
important for the project manager that they should manage and monitor its project activities and
tasks thoroughly.
Closing Phase:
Last stage of the project life cycle involve closing which is also known as completion
phase which largely focus on final deliver of valuable project to the client. For example, in the
given work-based project, the closing phase involve the completion of guest security system
installation all over the Premier Inn hotel. Further, after completing the project, the manager and
team of project has conducted post-installation meeting analysing the overall project quality and
performance (Ferrer Romero, 2018). After that, the project manager of Premier Inn hotel has also
archive the project records before delivering the project to Premier Inn. Finally, during this stage
after delivering the project, the celebration of achievement has been taken place and feedback
session has been conducted. During the feedback session, it was asked from the guest that they
are happy with the security system implemented or installed by the Premier Inn hotel within their
organization for the safety of their guest. This feedback will help the project manager to known
the outcome of their work.

Meeting of deadline of project:
The deadline of whole guest security system project is achieved by the project manager
via preparing Gantt chart. It means with the help of dividing activities and preparing Gantt chart,

the project manager and team of Premier Inn hotel has completed the whole project within the
timeframe of 6 months. Gantt Chart basically helps the project manager to organize project along
with improving its overall visibility. With the help of this, the manager able to keep its team
member on track and encourage collaboration among project team member. Putting together a
checklist and making list of goals that need to be complete is one of the way through which
project manager has achieved and meet the deadline of the project (Hewavitharana, Nanayakkara
and Perera, 2019). Along with this, the project manager has set aside uninterrupted time in order
to tackle big goals and finish smaller goals. This goals need to be achieved by the manager as
well as project team member within the set timeframe in order to complete overall project within
the timeframe of 6 months.
Achievement of benefits of project:
The installation of guest security system has provided various benefits to Premier Inn
hotel such as increased profitability, customer retention rate and enhanced guest experience. All
this benefits are achieved by the project manager with the help of the project of installation of
guest security system within the Premier Inn hotel. Basically, the project management and its
each stages has improved the productivity of project teams along with the reduction in cost and
workload. It is because each team member known their roles and responsibilities which they
need to fulfil with the use of resources allocated to them. Not only that, with the help of project
management life cycle, also help the project manager in adopting the change policy for this
project (Levy, 2018). Further, the impact of which the benefits of project are achieved by the
project manager and Premier Inn organisation.
Achievement of aims and objectives of project:
The aim of the project is to install guest security system within the Premier Inn hotel with
the objective of increasing customer retention rate and high profit margin. The project manager
able to identify and set the objective of guest security system installation. However, the project
manager has faced difficulty in setting the smart objective but with the proper communication
with colleges the smart objective with target has been develop and set by the project manager.
During all project life cycle stages, all the activities and tasks are successfully developed by the
project manager with the help of which the aims and objectives are easily get achieved. Further,

the roles are also assign by the manager to its team member properly along with the resources
allocation the impact of which aims and objectives are achieved. The proper budget development
is also one of the main reason behind the achievement of objectives of project such as objective
of installing security system within the cost estimate of £150000 (Dasović, Galić and Klanšek,
2020). Assigning roles and responsibilities, allocating resources, identifying risk and adopting
strategies to reduce or eliminate risk is the biggest ways with the help of which project manager
able to achieve objective of increasing the customer retention rate of Premier Inn hotel by 15%
and profit margin by 10%.
CONCLUSION
My experience was quite good as well as challenging during the whole project. It means
being a project manager, I have faced various difficulties as well as achievements during the
project of installing guest security system within Premier Inn Hotels. In order to reflect on my
own experience, I am using SWOT theory because it is one of the best theory or personal skill
analysis by distributing them into four categories such as strength, weakness, opportunity and
threat.

On the basis of above personal swot analysis, it can be said that my strongest skills are
effective communication, time management, negotiation and quality management with the use of
which I am able to achieve my project aims and objectives within the pre-determined timeframe
of 6 months. Basically, during the time of assigning roles and responsibilities to my team
member and during meeting with stakeholders and supplier, my effective communication skills
has helped me in explaining my viewpoint more clearly to others. Not only that, with the help of
my negotiation power I am able to deal or negotiate with the supplier of security system at low
cost (Sadikova, 2020). This has further helped in cost management which I further need to
develop in myself because it is the core skill of project manager.
Basically, during this project, I have face difficulty in managing the risk which I have
identified. The impact of which the overrun of budget is one of the biggest issues faces by me
being a project manager of Premier Inn organization. This is also arising because of my poor
problem solving skills. But the overall experience of mine is quite good beside the challenges
and issue faced during project life cycle (Whalen and Paez, 2021). Further, at the time of
encouraging my project team member, I have identified that my team member is not satisfied
with the environment. At that time, I have realised that my interpersonal skill and team working
skill is poor which I need to develop in myself in order to became a successful project manager.
By the way, the experience at workplace i.e., Premier Inn organization was nice and beneficial
because I am able to learn new things and develop new skills in myself.
For example, at the time of planning and evaluating the project of installing guest
security system within Premier Inn hotel, I have difficulty in scheduling each task. Then, I got to
known about the project management software with the help of which I can prepare Gantt Chart.
The Gantt chart has helped me a lot in scheduling and tracking the project tasks the ultimate
outcome of which the project is completed within the timeline. Now in order to overcome my
weakest skills and develop new skills such as project scheduling, budgeting, team working, cost
management and interpersonal skills I will join a short course (Lippi and Mattiuzzi, 2019).
Further, I will also develop these skills in myself so that in future if I get the same project I will
complete it with my full potential and positive mind-set.
