Sustainability Requirements
The business of Macville Pty Ltd is engaged in the business of manufacturing products
which are sold to the customers. The management of the company is concerned regarding
sustainability problems which has affected the business (Alderwick et al. 2016). As per the case
study, the practices in the head office of the business is not following sustainable codes. The
following policies which are followed by the business are listed below:
New Air condition Policy: One of the major weaknesses which has been noticed in the
business in terms of sustainability practice is related to misuse of air conditioning which
increases the costs of the business.
Light off policy: It has been noticed from the case that the lights of head office are even
when there is no one in the office. This has an impact on the costs of the business as well
as there is a wastage of resources for the business as well.
Generation of Waste papers: Another major issue which is related to sustainability
requirements of a business is related to generation of waste even of papers which can also
be considered as one of the major issues relating to sustainability in the business.
Water Wastage: Another resource which is widely and carelessly used by the business is
water which though is a renewable source must not be wasted by the management of the
company.
Business models for Sustainability
The concept of sustainable development has received growing recognition, but it is a new
idea for many business executives. Therefore, the same needs to be applied in a business

environment so that the resources applied by the business are not wasted. The concept of
sustainable development needs to be incorporated into the policies and processes of a business in
order to ensure that the management of the company effectively follows such policies (Wheeler
2013). The management of Macville Pty ltd needs to respond to sustainable practices by making
changes in the management accounting system. The changes which need to be incorporated in
the business are accountability of all actions of the business to the non-traditional stakeholders
and continuous improvement in the reporting framework which is applied by the business.
Existing Gaps in Business Policies of the Business
The policies which are followed by the business are not working properly considering the
sustainability requirements of the business (Bal et al. 2013). The existing gaps which can be
identified from the business of Macville Pty ltd are listed below:
The business does not have an appropriate policy regarding the lighting of the business
and it is seen that lights are even turned on even when there is no one in the office.
The business does not have an appropriate wastage management policy as the case study
shows that the business generates lot of paper wastes.
The case study regarding the business also shows that the business does not follow the
judicious use of resources as the case study shows that there are incidence of waste of
water resources.
The management of the company also lack in environmental and sustainability policies
and the operations of the business violates some of the polices which are established in
the business.

Proposed Recommendations to Improve the Business Structure
The management of the company needs to formulate strategies for the purpose of
ensuring that a proper sustainability framework is followed in the organization. Some of the
suggestions which can be suggested to the management of Macville Pty ltd for ensuring
sustainability is maintained in the workplace are listed below:
Air conditioner Policy:
The business needs to switch from manual control of the air conditioner to automatic
control which can effectively sense whether someone is using the same or not. In case no
one is using air conditioners, then the same would automatically switch off.
The management of the company needs to direct the employees that the air conditioner
would be switched off when the same is not being used or when office shift time is over
(Gray and Stites 2013). The management of the company can direct the employees
through an official mail.
Lights off Policy:
This is also one of the important factors which is included in the sustainability policies is
lights off policy which is required to be followed by businesses for maintaining sustainability
practices in a business. The recommendations which can be provided to the management of
Macville Pty ltd for making improvements in this policy are suggested below:
The management of the company needs to introduce a policy in the business relating
switching off the lights of the business after shift time of the workers are over. The policy
should state that the last employee to leave the office needs to switch off the lights so that

electricity can be saved. In addition to this, this will also save costs for the business
relating to electricity bills.
The management of the company can direct the security guard to check on the office in
order to switch off the lights and fans in case any is still on. These steps would ensure
that the business follows sustainability in the business.
Waste Management Policies:
The waste generation in a business is an important consideration which affects the
sustainability practices of a business and the management of the company needs to take
appropriate steps regarding the same. The suggestions which can be provided in this respect are
listed below in details:
The management of the company needs to incorporate the policies and practices of reuse
and recycle of waste. In the case of Macville ltd, the main waste which is generated by
the business is papers which can be reused by the business for a different purpose. This
would save stationary costs of the business and also save resources which is a major step
towards sustainability in the business.
The management of the company should direct the employees to use the resources of the
business carefully as wastage would increase the costs of the business and thereby affect
the ability of the business to generate more profits (Neubauer and Lank 2016).
Efficient Use of Water Resources:
The management of the company needs to conserve water resources which is one of the
major steps towards maintaining sustainability in the business. The management of
