Question 1
The central legislation for the Australian government for environment is the Environment
Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999. The purpose of this legislation is to prevent
any act that can potentially harm the delicate environmental balance in various parts of Australia.
Any person who takes action against the matters that are protected in accordance of the law and
related regulations is liable to be held guilty under the regulations.
Question 2
Answer a) For developing policy and procedures the appropriate procedure is to develop a strong
knowledge of the context of the policy implementation. It is very important to understand the
implications that the policies can have. It is important to create an effective framework.
Answer b) The most important people that should be consulted are the organizational
management, the government agencies, the employees and the various other external and internal
stakeholders. It is very important to consult the concerned regulatory authorities.
Answer c) The reviewing and monitoring strategies can be the creation of ideal outcomes, the
development of strong feedback mechanisms, the creation of strategic aims and objectives, the
development of reports against the annual plans for operations.
Question 3
Barrier 1-The employees would need to be approached through special sessions. Proper
communication needs to be made with the employees where the benefits and advantages of the
policies are clearly stated. The reason for the policy implementation should be communicated
effectively towards the employees of the organization.
Barrier 2- The policies should be made in parts that are easier to understand and implement. The
policy should be reviewed and the most feasible ways of implementing the policy should be
decided. The policies should be strongly implemented by the management.
Barrier 3- The immediate response would be to engage in a policy review. The next step would
be to implement the plan to update the policies. The framing of new policies is required after
proper evaluation of the various available options that are important to consider.

Question 4
a) The energy saving bulbs should be promoted among all the staff members. The staffs should
be made clear about the energy saving light properties of the new bulbs that were installed. The
costs can be monitored with the help of a planned agenda that would put the lowered costs
against a cost management parameter. The staffs can be given special office hygiene points if
they use energy saving lights in the quarter. This can apply to their appraisals.
b) Responsibilities:-
Management- The responsibility of the management is to evaluate the changes that take place. It
is important to note that the policies have to be approved by the management. At the same time
the management would be responsible towards the effective implementation of the policies and
setting the important guidelines.
Employees- The implementation of the sustainability policy relies on the employees. The
employees would need to change their energy consumption habits to ensure the effective and
efficient implementation of the sustainability policy. The employees would need to manage the
entire process.
c) According to the usage data the total energy consumption for the year was 2383 Kilowatts.
There has been a combined saving of 902 Kilowatts of energy. The company has been able to
save significant amount of energy over a period of 3 months. It is important that the strategy is
taken forward like this.
d) The wider community can be reached with the help of social media and other important online
channels. At the same time the community can be provided with a detailed report on the
sustainability work of the organization. The creation of a detailed sustainability report can help
to improve the public relations activities of the company.

Assessment Task 2: Develop Sustainability Process
Part-A:
1. The scope for the sustainability initiatives would encompass all the aspects that form integral
part of the organizational premises. At the same time the sustainability initiatives are also
essentially targeted towards the clients. The scope is focused towards helping all people engaged
with the organization to develop essential sustainability values.
2. The likely stakeholders for the project are the managers, the employees, the clients, the people
engaged in the various activities with the organization. The government and regulatory
authorities would also be major stakeholders for the initiatives. The project stakeholders would
be engaged in taking forward the sustainability initiatives.
3. One environmental sustainability legislation that can be identified is Environment Protection
and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999. One regulation is the environment protection act of the
country. Code of practice for materials handling is on important code of practice. Together these
elements can help in the creation of better policies as a strong framework for policy
development.
Part-B
The consultation session should begin with all the information that is required to help the
stakeholders understand the implications of the issues relating to sustainability. The policies are
developed in order to create a better framework to tackle the sustainability challenges.
The feedback from the waste management team ensured that the people need to take
better responsibilities to end the waste of products. The same can be improved by recycling and
generating lesser wastage.
The chemical usage feedback pointed out that most of the stakeholders are not happy
about the various chemicals that are used in the organization. It has become important that the
harmful chemicals are replaced with more eco-friendly products. Especially, the cleaning
products need to be completely changed.
Water consumption is very high in the office. The feedback pointed towards the necessity
to develop and promote the usage of hand wash among the employees. There is a need to use
