Essay on diabetes and its impact over the population of Canada
In this essay, an analysis will be done over the social determinants and social
inequalities related to the disease diabetes. The analysis and impact of the disease will be
done over teen mothers and aboriginal Canadians. The different types of social determinants
of health will be scrutinised in order to know the various aspects of the diabetes. Focus will
also be provided over the symptoms, treatments and precautions related to the disease.
Analysis of diabetes in Canada
Diabetes is a type of condition of the body in which the blood sugar becomes too high
to control. Hormone ‘insulin’ helps the cells to take in glucose from the blood and helps in
maintaining the sugar level inside the body. The amount of glucose is regulated by the
hormone insulin. Insulin pushes the glucose into the cells. If the insulin is not properly
produces by the body then, the level of blood sugar is increased inside the body. Chronic
diabetes include type 1 and type 2 diseases. Excessive thrust, frequent urination and
noticeable weight loss are the major symptoms of diabetes. Regular exercise and by having
balanced diet can control the initial level of the disease that is called type 1 diabetes. In type 2
diabetes, the receiving of insulin by injections are the only source by which the diabetes can
be controlled (MD, 2020).
Aboriginal diabetes in Canada
Those indigenous people who are living in Canada are at the highest risk of the
population which is suffering from diabetes and its consequences like heart diseases, kidney
diseases, eyes diseases and many other diseases. As comparative to general population the
risk of diabetes are 26% higher in indigenous population (association, 2020).
Aboriginal population of Canada is suffering from chronic diabetes because of
different types of social determinants like lack of education, unawareness about symptoms,
screening and treatment of diabetes. Poor living conditions, low income and high
unemployment rates are also responsible for the critical condition of diabetes among
indigenous population (Olayinka, 2020).

Ingenious population is also suffering from cardiovascular disease, chronic kidney
diseases, foot abnormalities and many other severe diseases because of their poor dietary
habits. Most of the persons belongs from low income group and that is why they even not
able to purchase sufficient food for themselves (Canada G. o., 2020).
Patient, family or support coping mechanism related to the disease
The patient should be provided complete rest. A positive environment helps the
patient in order to overcome from the consequences of the disease. The indigenous people of
Canada should be given education about diabetes. A proper teaching plan with the objectives
of make the indigenous people aware about coping mechanism related to diabetes like having
fresh and balanced diet, taking proper water and receiving the methods of insulin. Most of the
people of indigenous population of Canada are unaware about the symptoms and
consequences of the disease. They do not have sufficient and proper diet for maintaining their
health because of their low income group (Rebecca Crawford, 2020).
Many tribe populations do not understand about the basic hygienic system which is
essential for living a safe and risk free life. In the absence of basic knowledge, the indigenous
people turned to prayers, divinations and sometimes turned to alcohol or drugs in order to
cope up with the disease. The people of indigenous community should be given the basic
health knowledge in order to improve their health conditions (association, 2020).
The increasing level of diabetes in the indigenous population is one of the greatest
challenges for the government of Canada in order to achieve a satisfactory health standard for
the people of the country. Government should ensure about providing the essential medical
and clinical facilities to indigenous community at a lower cost because of the poor financial
conditions for the indigenous population (association, 2020).
