OVERALL EVALUATION
Hi Letisha,
Thanks for submitting this assessment.
Your report did not demonstrate a solid understanding of your client’s health conditions
(diabetes type 2 and high blood pressure). It was lacking a description of the need to stabilise
blood sugar, insulin/insulin resistance and its link to developing diabetes, or how high intake of
take away foods contribute to hypertension, for example.
It lacked reference to the core dietary treatment for both conditions – lowering sodium intake
and reducing sugar/recommending low glycaemic foods and snacks. These interventions were a
minimum to include to demonstrate a basic understanding of how nutrition can support your
client. You mentioned the need for calcium, potassium and magnesium to reduce blood
pressure (which could be used if lowering salt intake does not work) but did not tell us how
these work to reduce hypertension.
To further strengthen your work, you could have expanded on the role of fibre and other
micronutrients to stabilise blood sugar/lower insulin, or the role of exercise and how it
improves insulin sensitivity and lowers blood pressure, for example. With your client being a
lawyer and working long hours, it would have strengthened your work to include discussion
about stress reduction and how this improves blood pressure and quality of sleep (both
concerns for your client).
Be careful, overall the report was too general and lacked sufficient detail and examples
throughout. It was repetitive and unclear at times, and some in-text references did not match
the statement they were being used for.
Please see my further comments throughout.
