INTRODUCTIONa. Research backgroundOne of the main objectives of every business unit is to maximize profit and to sustain inthe market for longer duration. In the increasing competitive era companies, a have intensifiedneed to improve working performance of their workers so that they can contribute well inaccomplishing goal of the entities. Corporate environment is changing rapidly thus,organizations have to pay more attention on managing their workers well. It is only possible bymotivating the staff members (Weingarten, Pagell and Fynes, 2013). Motivation is the way thatcan enhance confidence and loyalty of the workers and can retain them in the workplace forlonger duration. Human resource is the most valued assets of the company that can supportorganization in achieving their goals and objectives. Main responsibility of the human resourcedepartment is to hire skilled employees and to retain them in the workplace for longer duration.This is only possible by encouraging the staff members and making them loyal towards the firm(Shields, Brown and Plimmer, 2015). Present study is based on Marks and Spencer in Oxford Circus which is fashion retailerand operates its business across the world. Oxford Circus is the location in London which isfamous for shopping (Stanley, 2013). Main agenda of the cited firm is to motivate its employeesso that they put their hard efforts and contribute well in accomplishing goal of the entity. It isfact that by encouraging the staff members companies can improve their productivity and qualityof products as well. Dissertation will explore motivational factors that can impact on worker'sperformance and can encourage them to work better (Torres and Sidorova, 2015). b. Research problemsMarks and Spencer is operating its business in the fashion industry. It provides qualityand stylish clothes to the consumers as per their requirement. Companies want to increase itsrevenues and want to gain attention of mass audience. On daily bases cited firm has to deal withmany customers. Employees deal with them directly, they have to understand their requirementsand have to provide them products as per their requirements. For achieving this objective M&Srequire appropriate manpower and effective team (van Nunspeet, Ellemers and Derks, 2015).Currently employees of the Marks and Spencer in Oxford Circus are not performing their workefficiently. They feel demotivated due to corporate culture, hard practices. It decreases their1

motivation level and they feel disheartened and think to leave their jobs. This study will helpM&S in identifying factors that can motivate the workers and can improve their workperformance. This dissertation will be beneficial for other companies as well, by this way theywill get to know issues faced by employees, their needs and firms will be able to make effectivestrategies that can encourage their workers. c. Research purposeThe main aim of the study is to explore motivational factors that impact on worker'sperformance of Marks and Spencer in Oxford Circus. Objective of the investigation is to identifysignificance of motivation in the organization . Furthermore, another objective of the dissertationis to investigate various motivational theories that can support companies in encouraging theirworkers and improving their work performance.
