1.1 Background of the study
In today's time, there is very huge competition among the corporations and every
business firm, design a distinctive strategies and tactics for compete with rivals. With assistance
of the effective strategies and tactics, corporation can easily develop its own brand image and
attract the large number of customer toward the firm. In this manner, supply chain management
is one of the strategy by which company can easily deliver its commodity to the end users. It is a
kind of concept under which product and services can delivers from manufacturer to final
customers in the market and satisfy their needs related to product and services (Ashby, et al.,
2012). With assistance of the supply chain management, quality of product and services can
improve by the manufacturer and reduce cost effects. There are various kinds of the software
which can assist in improving the inventory management system. The ultimate goal of any
effective supply chain management system is to overcome inventory from the operation of
business. Supply chain management flows can be divided into three main flows that is product
flow, information flow ad finance flow.
In the present time, ion every business sector like retail, hospitality, travel and tourism,
entertainment etc required an impressive and well managed supply chain management system by
which it can effectively deliver at the customer and meet the requirement of them related to the
goods and services (Christopher, 2016). In simple words it can be said that supply chain
management is very important aspect within the company by which firm's product and services
can effectively move from manufacturer to final consumers.
In the present dissertation, the major objective of the researcher is to identify the
component which influence supply chain management in the automobile sector. Auto mobile
industry is one of the largest in the world which annual production of 23.96 million vehicles in
2015-16.In this industry, supply chain management plays a very crucial role by which company
produce and deliver the product from manufacturer to final consumers.

Management is one of the significant aspect by which firm can flow the goods and services to
the customer and in this procedure, major three terms are included such as finished good, semi-
finished good, work in progress and raw materials. Basically, it shows the contribution of
suppliers under which they carry out various activities such as production, distribution,
packaging etc. SCM is the most crucial aspect by which company can achieve its determined
goal because without this concept, no firm can develop its target and cannot attain its objective.
In the opinion of (Christopher, 2016)supply chain is a network of people and businesses
that work together for converting the raw material into the final finished goods and services. It is
the activity by which customer can gain the effective value and satisfaction from the goods and
services. It is the active integration and coordination of all supply chain activities by which
customer can gain the effective satisfaction. With help of SCM, company can develop its own

work together to design, produce, deliver and service products. There are major three flows in
the supply chain that are material, information and capital. The major benefit of SCM is to
overcome uncertainty along the chain, proper inventory level in the chain, minimise delay,

eliminate rush, provide good customer services etc. However, the major problem with supply
chain is delay in production, distribution, lack of partners coordination, poor demand forecast,
poor quality, interference with production, lack of effective information technology, lack of
partner’s coordination etc. There are major three kinds of variability in the supply chain that are
demand variability, process variability and supply variability. In SCM, supplier requires an
effective source of information technology and communication tool by which they can connect
with each other. The internet and web can be very effective communication enhancer by which
supplier and employees can collectively carry out their working in the company and satisfy the
needs of customers. In this process of SCM, supplier requires software such as demand
forecasting tool and planning tools to allow all supply chain members to coordinate their
activities and adjust their production levels. With the help of different software, suppliers can
review the past performance and monitor current performance. In addition to this, they can
predict future production level of product and services.
2.2 Analyse the factor that impact success of Supply Chain Management
According to the view of (Gale, & and et.al.,, 2013)while company deals with the aspect
of SCM, then it is very important for it to consider its several components which affect its
process and activities within the company. If firm effectively understands and addresses several
elements of SCM, then it is very easy to organise mentioned program in excellent manner and
achieve determined objective within stipulated time period.
The major objective of this process of SCM is to deliver the right commodity, at the right time
and to the right people. Thus, it is very essential for enterprise to consider these components
through which it can meet customer requirement by delivering right product and services.
As per the view of (Gomez-Mejia, 2014)in the concept of SCM, geographical location
and transportation decision is major factor which is required to be considered by supplier and
company. While any company takes the decision related to SCM, then it is very important to
focus on the geographical location of production unit and transportation. This factor can affect
the revenue, cost and level of services. It is very important for the company to consider the
customer location because the delivery of product and services largely affects the location of the

the business enterprise. Determining the appropriate mode of transport is one of the important

example, SCM for the solid product will be different from liquid end products. If company
delivers ice cream and some medicine products, then whole supply chain process will be
designed based on the availability of cold containers.
In the opinion of (Keightley, 2010)inventory control is another major factor which affects
SCM. Inventory is very essential part of the supply chain which includes raw material, semi-
finished goods and finished goods. In order to determine the cost of production, proper control
and inventory management is very important. (Neuman, & Robson, 2012)stated distribution
strategies is another major factor which affects SCM in the corporation. It is very important for
the corporation to take an effective decision of the distribution strategy. With help of distribution
strategy, company can place the right product and services at the right time and at the right
people. It is very essential to take the right decision of distribution strategy by which right
product and services can be delivered to the right customer. If there is taken the wrong decision
about the distribution, then it will directly impact the productivity and performance of the
company. This mentioned strategy deals with relationship and the connection among warehouse
and suppliers.
In the opinion of (Kwon,, et al., 2017)stated that governmental regulation, traffic and
environmental rules also influence the system of SCM. It is very important for the company to
consider the governmental rules, regulation, policies, legislation, code of conduct etc. In order to
minimise the waste product, properly disposing of dangerous chemicals and using recyclable
material, government has imposed several regulation and rules in the country which every
business enterprise has to follow while considering SCM. (Stadtler, 2015) stated that supply
chain management largely affect the regulation and legislation which is imposed by the
government. With assistance of this legislation and regulation, organisation performance can
effectively manage and it can securely conduct its business activities and functions.
In the view of (Olson & Wu, 2017)stated that SCM requires effective information and
data related to all procurement, inventories etc. In the absence of proper data and information

procurement and system, suppliers can effectively conduct the program of SCM and meet the

environment uncertainty refers to the environmental issue in the product chain. Due to this
uncertainty, unexpected changes can occur related to customer, suppliers, competitors,
technology etc. This is an important factor in the realisation of strategic supply management
plan. In this factor, major three sub-factors were identified such as environment, government
support and uncertainty aspect from overseas. While government changes policies, practices and
code of conduct of the country, then it may affect the process of SCM. This is an uncertain factor
which can change uncertainly within the county and every company have to follow imposed
regulation by government. Company environment is another major factor which influences SCM
program in an enterprise. This sub factor is related to the company's relationship with supplier
and their level of trust and commitment. Company environment is also related to the company's
expectation of quality, on-time delivery, competition in sector and the level of competition
among the firms. In order to conduct each activity of SCM in the market in an effective manner,
proper support of government is very important. With proper support and assistance, corporation
can conduct the program of SCM in an impressive manner. In the contradicting view (Tayur,
2012)stated that it is very important for the organisation to develop such impressive practices
and policies of the supply chain management so as its entire function can effectively conduct at

a great responsibility of the higher authority to conduct the process of supply chain management

requires understanding these barriers.
In the opinion of (Ramanathan, 2017)one of the major barrier in the supply chain
management is lack of a committed and supportive top management. In order to effectively carry
out the activities of supply chain management, it is very important to get a committed and
supportive outlook from the top management and higher authorities. In the absence of proper
support and coordination from top management, company cannot survive the program of supply
chain management. Top management design the policies, practices and strategies for conducting
supply chain management. In the absence of top management, company cannot design the
policies, practices and strategies of the supply chain management. On the contradicting view
(Ahmad, et al., 2015) stated that not only top management is barrier but also practices and
policy is major barrier that affect the supply chain management in the organisation.
(Ross, 2016)stated that technology is another major barrier in the process of supply chain
management. Incompatible technology can create supply chain management related issue for the
company. While the companies operate with multiple number of suppliers in multiple regions,
then technology platform compatible can be a huge challenge for the firm. In order to carry out
the program of supply chain management in an effective manner, it is important for the firms to
use highly advanced and latest technology. Technology plays a very crucial role in the supply
chain management because in order to transfer the good and services from one place to another,
suppliers and distributors requires an excellent technology. If company do not have proper and
adequate technology, then they will not be able to communicate with the customers in an
impressive manner. There are various key activities of supply chain management such as
customer relationship management, customer service management, demand management, order
fulfilment, manufacturing flow management, procurement, product development and
commercialisation, return management, etc. that requires high quality and impressive
technologies.

objective is another major barrier in the organisation with respect to supply chain management.
In the absence of clear organisational goals, company cannot overcome the issues related to
supply chain management. With the help of clear objectives and targets of the company,
management can easily set and manage the activities of supply chain management. If there is
unclear objectives and targets within the organisation, then it will be very difficult for the
suppliers to create a clear path and structure of each supply chain management activities. It is
very important for the higher authority and top management to design a clear vision, mission,

CHAPTER 5 CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATIONS
5.1 Critique of adopted approach
In the present study for address the objective of analyse the factor that affect supply chain
management within Tesla company, researcher have adopted qualitative research technique
under which collected information have been represented with help of graphs, charts and figures.
With help of positivism research philosophy ad deductive approach reseracher have successfully
attempted the objective of study.
5.2 Analysis and interpretation
In this dissertation, researcher have conducted the survey of 20 managers of Tesla
company in order to assess the factor that affect supply chain management in the Automobile
industry. In the primary data collection it has been found that 18 respondents said yes upon the
statement that Tesla company 's supply chain management can affected by various factors. In
these factors includes such as inventory cost, environmental uncertainty, skill and talent of
employees, geographical location, transportation decision, information technology etc. In
addition to this, in the survey from 20 respondents, 9 respondents said that technology is major
barrier that affect the process of supply chain management in the Tesla company. On the other
hand 5 respondents said that unclear structure of business can affect the process of supply chain
management in the cited venture (Ashby, et al., 2012). Thus, from this collected data it has been
analysed that supply chain management can influence with the technology and unclear objective.
Thus, management should always adopt the effective technology for implementing effective
process and function of supply chain management. While there is effective information
technology and system then it becomes easy to conduct effective supply chain management. It
has been also concluded in the survey that Tesla company have effectively performed its
function and activities of the supply chain management in the market. From collected data it has
been also assessed that technology is major factor that can influence the supply chain
management function in the Tesla company. With assistance of the information technology,
company have effectively performed its various functional like marketing, human resource,
operation, finance etc because in every functional department, information technology required
in large manner (Christopher, 2016).As Incompatible technology can create the issue for the
company in the context of supply chain management. While company working with multiple
suppliers in multiple region, then technology platform compatible can be a huge challenge for
the firm. It has been also concluded that geographical location and transportation is another

major factor that can influence the function of supply chain management (Monczka, &
Patterson,, 2015). It is very important for the company to consider the customer location because
the delivery of product and services largely affect the location of the customer. Thus, it can be
said that geographical location and transportation is major decision which needed to take by
company at the time of supply chain management implementation (Keightley, 2010). Another
major factor that influence supply chain management function and process within corporation is
environmental uncertainty. Environment uncertainty refers to the environmental issue in the
product chain. Due to this uncertainty, unexpected changes can occur related to customer,
suppliers, competitors, technology etc. This is an important factor in the realisation of strategic
supply management plan. In this factor, major three sub-factors were identified such as
environment, government support and uncertainty aspect from overseas (Pagell, & Shevchenko,
2014). It has been also concluded from this report that the level of support that the company
receives from the government while it operate the supply chain management function. It includes
the use of norms, regulation, policies, advices for the sector. With help of governmental
regulation and standard, company can easily perform it's supply chain function in more protect
and secure manner. From this entire research study, it has been also analysed that supply chain
management maintains the trust between the partner and provide better medium for information
sharing between partners (Gomez-Mejia, 2014).It helps to the company in delivering the accurate
and high quality of product and services to the right customers. While in the company, there is
effectively performed the supply chain management then it will helpful to design an impressive
brand image in the market. Thus, Tesla company should consider the practices that help in
supply chain management because it is very important concept for business enterprise.

5.3 Overall conclusion and summary
From the entire discussion it has been concluded that supply chain management is a
major function and activity within the organisation through which firm can able to deliver the
right product and services at the time and at the right place. With assistance of the effective
supply chain management, company can easily overcome the operational cost and boost
customers services. While company delivers the right product and services to the customer at the
right time an at the right place then customer will satisfy and happy with organisation. With help
of effective function of the supply chain management, firm can deliver impressive satisfaction to
its customer and also it delivers effective customer services (Walker, & Jones, , 2012). While
company effectively satisfy the actual needs and wants by deliver appropriate services and
product at the right time and at the right place, firm can easily improve its profitability and
market share. In addition to this it has been also concluded that while company conduct the
program of supply chain management then it requires considering various activities such as
logistic information system, product design etc (Stadtler, 2015). These activities help to the firm
in improving the quality of services and attract the large numbers of customers. It has been also
concluded in the dissertation that there are several kinds of barriers that can affect the function of
supply chain management. In this manner, lack of skill and talent, technology and unclear
structure and objective is one of the major barriers that can influence the organisation's supply
chain management. Lack of effective skill, talent and human resource, company can also face the
barrier elated to this mentioned aspect. In order to conduct the process and functions of supply
chain management in an effective manner, it is very important for the company to hire and
skilled and talented workforce through which they can effectively contribute for conducting
supply chain management program.

In the entire dissertation, it has been also analysed and assessed that supply chain
management is that aspect within company through which product and services can deliver to the
customers in the market (Zumitzavan, 2015).It is very important for the company to analyse and
assess that factor which actually influence the supply chain management such as technology,
uncertain environment, information technology, unclear objective, effective skill and talent etc.
Recommendations
In the Tesla company there are still some requirement to improve the supply chain
management function so as it can not influence by various factors such as technology, unclear
objective, environmental uncertainty, governmental regulation etc. In order to improve supply
chain management within the Tesla company, there are some recommendation which are as
follows- Improve transparency- In order to improve supply chain management functions, it is
very important to increase transparency within the organisation (Zsidisin, & Robert,
2016). While management disclose all practices, strategies and policies with its
workforce then they may able to perform in more efficient and effective manner at the
workplace. Real time management- In order to improve supply chain management in an
organisation, company should engage with real time inventory management. The modern
ERP software offers inventory features that deliver real time visibility of exact inventory
levels. Monitor vendor performance- In order to improve supply chain management within the
company, effective monitoring and controlling is an effective strategy. With assistance of
the monitoring and controlling, management can effectively manage and measure the
performance of suppliers. Training and development- In order to improve the supply chain management function
and process in the organisation, it is very important to provide effective training program
to its employees so as they can effectively carry out their working for attain objective
(Yao, 2017)Company should provide effective training to its employees so as they can
learn the skill and ability to carry out supply chain function for its customers.

 Improve distribution network- In order to improve supply chain management within the
organisation, company should improve distribution network. With help of this strategy,
company can effectively supply and deliver the right product and services to the right
customer and at the right location . Tesla company should focus on the distribution
network by which it can effectively deliver the right product at the right time and at the
right place. In addition to this, Tesla company should focuses on that measures and ways
through which distribution network within the organisation can improve. While
distribution network improves within the company then it becomes easy to delivers the
right commodity to the right location in the market. This strategy assist in improving
company goodwill and competitive advantage of the organisation. Track business inventory- This is another one of the best strategy to improve the supply
chain management function by which corporation can effectively manage the inventory.
While company manage the inventory and stock then it becomes easy to conduct supply
chain management function within the organisation. Analyse information to meet customer need- In order to improve supply chain
management function and process, it is very important to analyse the actual customer
demand and requirement related to product and services which company serves in the
market. Tesla company should conduct the market research for access the actual
requirement of the customer related to product and services. By acknowledging actual
requirement of customer, company can improve it's supply chain management. Improve technological infrastructure- As technology is one of the way to improve the
overall performance of organisation. In every functional department like marketing,
operation, finance, HR requires effective technology. Thus, in order to improve
performance of supply chain management within Tesla company, it is very important to
improve technological infrastructure. By improving technology and equipment, firm can
make fast the speed of supply chain management. Thus, Tesla company should improve
its technological infrastructure and implement new equipment and technology in its
business operation and process.

 Maintain healthy relationship with suppliers- This is another major strategy to improve
supply chain management within the Tesla company. For conduct effective function of
supply chain management, company should develop the healthy and effective
relationship with suppliers . In addition to this, corporation should consider the
requirements of suppliers so as it can able to improve process of supply chain
management.
 Develop effective policies and practices- This is another one of the best strategy to
improve the supply chain management process and function. In this aspect, Tesla should
develop such strategy and practices through which employees and suppliers can
effectively and easily conduct their working activities and function within the company.
Company should focus on the such policies, strategies and practices that help to
employees in attaining its target in effective manner.
5.4 Limitation of the study
At the time of research investigation, there are some kinds of limitation which faced by
the investigator. In the entire research study, the major limitation is related to the time period,
because scholar have very limited time period under which scholar have to accomplish the study.
In order to overcome the impact of limited time period, scholar have used Gantt chart method in
this study. Another major limitation is related to the fund as in various activities like
transportation, internet bill, printing and stationery etc scholar required some amount of fund.
Due to the limited amount of finance, scholar may face the issue in the research study. Apart
from that scholar may also face issue related to improper answer of the question by respondents.
Many of the respondents were not giving answer on the time due to which scholar may face the
issue at the time of survey. Another major limitation of this current study is related to the
selection of appropriate information. As supply chain management is very huge topic and it has
several kinds of sub topic related to elements ad factor of the supply chain management. Thus, it
is quite difficult for researcher to select most appropriate information about supply chain
management.

5.5 Opportunities for Further research
This study can implement in other industries like health and care, FMCG, travel and
tourism, fashion, entertainment etc. With assistance of this study, researcher can easily analyse
the impact of factor that can influence supply chain management. With help of this research
study researcher can easily analyse the impact of various factor of supply chain management
within other organisation like manufacturing, retail, health and care, hospitality, travel and
tourism etc. The major advantage of this study is that this investigation provide detail knowledge
and understanding about the factor of supply chain management.
5.6 Reflection
From this entire research study, I have gain the effective knowledge and understanding
about the supply chain management and its associated factor that can affect supply chain
management within the company. From the survey, I have improved my data collection,
interaction and analytical skill as I have collected information from various respondents. Thus, I
can say that this research is very helpful for me for improve my research skill. By this
investigation , I can say that (Singh, 2010) (Smith, & and et.al., , 2011)my analytical skill and
interpretation skill have been also positively improved. At the time of data collection in the
survey I have effectively improved my communication and interaction skill because I have
interacted with many respondents.
