Executive summary
My leadership traits and characteristics are highly analysed in this essay with the help of external
tools like the Gallup test and internal analysis mechanism such as the feedbacks from my peers,
supervisors and subordinates. Based on this two analysis, I highlight some of the important
aspects of my leadership quality and found out the strengths and weaknesses that will further
develop an effective leadership practice. After that, a leadership development plan will be
proposed in association with the Boyatzis Intentional Change model as setting the objectives of
personal leadership development and transformational leadership theory as the base of leadership
development.

Introduction
Leadership is a crucial part in every aspects of life that motivates the followers or
subordinates to the right path of progress. Dyck (2017) opined that a successful leadership
follows the objectives strictly so that the desired outcomes can be achieved. In business, the
advent of globalisation creates high value of the leadership practices because it is impossible for
the employees to get mission and vision of the organisation without having guidance. As a matter
of fact, HaberCurran and Shankman (2018) pointed out that leaders in terms of the managers
have a direct communication with the employees. Henceforth, they can guide the employees to
follow the organisational objectives with the help of motivation and influence. However, the
characteristics of the leaders is pertinent in order to guide the employees to the right part.
Therefore, a development plan is required for the leaders to set better leadership qualities and
influence the team members effectively. Therefore, this essay is trying to focus on my leadership
qualities and weaknesses that can disrupt my development as an effective leader.
Discussion
Leadership and challenges
Leadership learning and development is a pertinent aspect for me to become good leader.
Therefore, I try to put emphasis on my leadership abilities and qualities and find out the strengths
and weaknesses so that I can remodel my leadership practices effectively. In course of leadership
practice and understanding I come to know about a number of important aspects that a good
leader has to follow in order to get maximum positive outcome. For instance, representing the
organisation, integration of the individual goals and the organisational objectives, motivating and

influencing the employees and coaching potential are the fundamental activities that the leaders
must follow in an organisation. As far as my leadership qualities are concerned, I can say that
representation of the organisation and focusing on the employee motivation and influence are
very important to me. Therefore, I always try to emphasis on my communication skills and direct
interaction with the employees so that any personal issue can be mitigated and the employees
will feel highly motivated.
However, I found out some challenges regarding the coaching potential and integrating
individual interests with organisational goals. Attaching the individual aspirations with
organisational objectives is identified as a pivotal part that a leader should focus. However, I fail
to integrate both the interests due to a number of possible reason. One of the major determinant
factors is my understanding and distinction between organisational objectives and individual
aspirations. I impose more emphasis on the benefits and flexibility of the employees and as a
result of that the organisational objectives get obscured to some extent. The impact also reflects
in coaching the employees. It is true that the employees get highly motivated but organisational
objectivity is not present there. Henceforth, the organisational progress is getting stalled to some
extent. These factors are referred as the most challenging part of my leadership qualities where I
presume a leader has to make a balance between the organisational objectives and individual
aspirations.
My two year plan
As a leader, I had started my journey from the academic practices. Initially, I took a
academic MBA course on leadership and people management in university. It helps me to
understand different aspects of the leadership and the risk factors that the leaders are often faced
in course of playing the role of a leader. Therefore, having an in-depth understanding regarding

the role of the leaders in organisation and their attitude towards the employees help me to set a
good leadership quality. Moreover, my academic courses also helped me to develop self-
consciousness and the self-evaluation skills that are also pivotal for the current leaders. After the
academics I got a job as supervisor in a café. Currently, I am still working in that café but
initially it was a trainee job role where I learned enough about the positive leadership practice
and the way to manage and motivate my team members. As a result of that the dynamics of
leadership and its importance in organisation were left a positive impact on my leadership
quality. In addition to this, I also learn about continuous development of leadership skills that
will foster high adaptability in workplace and willing to initiate a development plan for the next
2 years. Therefore, I am also focused on self-evaluation and development practice of my
leadership abilities and skills.
Inventories in personal leadership
For analysing my personal leadership strengths and figuring out the weaknesses I would
like to run Gallup test. The test tries to define a personality on the basis of five significant factors
that are responsible to highlight fiver different types of a leadership personality. As a result of
that in my case there are five key aspects that the Gallup test has found in terms of deliverer,
strategist, focus expert, analyst and catalyst. Each of these five points symbolises a unique
personality trait that a leader can possesses. The deliverer aspect is resembled with the objective
of taking responsibilities. My personality trait defines that I am such kind of a person who would
like to consider the emotional conscience as a key factor for effective leadership. As a result of
that the ethical principles are also stapled with my leadership qualities. This ethical consideration
helps me to take cautious steps in every decision making practice and develop a rational
leadership perception. Therefore, it can be stated that my reputation depends on commitments
