Introduction
The action or an activity of leading people or an organization is known as leadership
(Western, 2019). Every individual needs to have some leadership skills or qualities in order
develop personally as well as professionally. According to scholars, people face challenges in
their daily lives thus leadership skills provide opportunities to overcome these situations in
life (Glowacki and von, 2015). Leadership skills are important and most organizations look
for people with great leadership skills and opportunities. This paper sheds a light on the
current leadership skills and provides a development plan that will help in enhancing the
leadership skills and qualities for the better future, personally and professionally.

This is the personal and professional development plan I have created for myself and I
would like to achieve all the qualities and traits that are listed in the development plan in
order to make sure that I can develop myself and lead a team in a more efficient way in order

to make sure the desired goals of the organizations are met aligning with the needs of the
employees. I would like to achieve some of these traits in order to develop myself personally
as well.I am currently working as a leader in an E-commerce retailer division thus the first
goal I have set for myself is to lead people or a group. In order to achieve this I need to
volunteer for more projects that my organization gets so that I get a proper experience and
also supervise my team properly in order to achieve this goal. The constraints that I am
predicting that I may face is that the organization I work for may have a different opinion and
would not give me projects to lead if they find someone more capable and suitable for
handling the certain projects. The time frame I have set to achieve this goal the time frame I
have chosen is from 2-3 years as it is difficult to lead a team as every individual is different
and have different opinions that may not align with their ideology. According to scholars
when two people do not think alike then conflicts arise and these conflicts can be harmful for
the team as well as the organization (Redpath et al., 2015). Understanding and handling
people needs experience and time thus this is the time period I have taken to achieve my
goals.
The next goal I am willing to achieve is motivating my team members. As I am
currently serving an organization as team leader I believe I will grow in my career and will
need to handle more teams so that the goals of the organization are met. In order to so this I
need to motivate my subordinates so that they are motivated so that they work harder to bring
fruitful outcomes to the company. To do this I will conduct meetings to make them
understand the goals clearly. When people have a clear idea about the goals then employees
give more enhanced performance (Leroy et al., 2018). I would introduce feedback system as
to what problems my team is facing so that I can take effective measures to help motivate
them and also have a meeting with the management and propose incentive schemes which
will help employees work harder. According to scholars, money is one of the important

motivational factors in an organization which makes employees work harder to achieve their
own targets (Al-Belushi and Khan, 2017). However the problem that may come is the
disapproval of the management to propose the incentive scheme. At the end of each project I
would like to make a report where I would evaluate the target that has been met and the
performance of the employees. I would take about 2 years to achieve this because to motivate
employees there are certain changes that the organization also needs to take and this may take
a long time. It takes a lot of time to process and implement change in an organization thus
may take this long.
Self-motivation is the next goal that I would like to achieve which will not only help
me in life also help me develop professionally. To make sure I achieve this I would like to
stop over thinking and start becoming more positive. I would like to be positive in all types of
situation in the workplace as well as in life. There may be situations that may arise that may
bring negative thoughts but by being positive I should overcome these feelings. I will make
self-assessment reports to see how I have acted and responded to stressful situations and the
way I have dealt with it so that I can measure my progress. To do this it will take me about 2
years as in negative situation I tend to over think and lose motivation.
One of the most important skills that I would want to develop is efficient decision
making skills. According to scholars, decision making is important in life during crucial
situations as problems will always arise in life which needs to be solved to maintain and lead
a healthy and happy life (Cerezo-Narváez et al., 2018). Decision making is important in an
organization as efficient decision making often decides the fate of the organization whether it
will be a success or a failure (Holmberg-Wright and Hribar, 2016). I would like to make
proper decisions that benefit the organization and my team so that there is fruitful production.
I would research to attain and understand the important skills that are needed to make proper
decision and will also start analyzing the situation so that I can understand the gravitas of the

situation and make decisions accordingly. This is somehow time consuming and has a
negative aspect during crisis sufficient time is not available to analyze situations thoroughly.
To measure my progress, SWOT analysis will be done to see the weaknesses.
Personal and leadership development model
Leadership is an important factor that highly contributes to the lives of people
professionally as well as personally. Everyone requires leadership qualities at some point in
their life. Scholars have been studying this topic for years and many scholars have come up
with various leadership models which suggest the different type of leadership and leaders. I
have studies many models and theories of personal and leadership development however, I
resonate the most with the model which is the capability model.
The capability model suggests the overall set of capabilities which is required in order
to fulfill the desired goals of the organization.

Individual attributes
In the capability model the individual attributes are made of four basic attitudes which
is the following:

General Cognitive Ability- This is known as the intelligence of a person which has a
connection with biology.
Crystallized Cognitive Ability- This is intellectual ability that is acquired or learned over
time.
Motivation- This indicates the willingness of the person to troubleshoot problems and exert
their own influence for the overall productivity of an organization,
Personality- This is said to be traits that often help performers to cope up with complex
situations in the organization (Wang and Zeng, 2017).
Competencies
Problem-solving skills- This is said to be the creative ability of the performers that help in
solving ill-defined problems of the organization.
Knowledge- This is the information that is accumulated and the mental structure that is used
to organize these informations(Wang and Zeng, 2017).
Social judgment skills- It is the capacity to understand the social system and the people.
Professional knowledge and skills- This is considered to be the skills that are necessary for
the production of fruitful outputs.
Performer outcome
This is the degree to which the person has managed to successfully perform her or his duties
that is measured by external criteria(Wang and Zeng, 2017).
This is the personal and leadership development model with which I connect the most
as I feel this exemplifies my leadership style.In this model it shows the capabilities that are

needed to achieve the goals of the organization. Leaders should possess these qualities which
highly contribute to the overall development and is beneficial for the future. The four
attributes listed here are essential factors that one leader must possess. Intellectual
intelligence one of the important factors as it is gained from experience. Experience helps in
life and helps in making the person take better choices (Hammond Keeney and Raiffa, 2015).
Torkelson et al., (2016) opines experience in a workplace is detrimental and it helps in
enhancing skills which helps in providing better outcomes. Motivation and personality are
important traits that a leader must have. Scholars state that without motivation one cannot
work efficiently. This is equivalent to work as well as life. Nie et al., (2015) states that
motivation is a key to success which helps people fight and keep working to grow in life.
Personality is a leadership trait. A good personality of a team leader makes employees follow
the leader and make them their role model which is necessary.
The competencies that are laid in the model are extremely necessary. First, is the
problem solving skill. This is one of the most important factors that define a true leader.
Effective problem solving skills helps in troubleshooting problems that saves the
organizations from being adversely affected. On the other hand problem solving skills help to
solve the issues that arise in the daily lives of the people in order to lead a smooth life.
Knowledge is the other competency. Scholars suggest that knowledge helps in shaping the
outlook of the person on various things and helps to broaden the horizon of the people
(Lareau, 2015). In an organization a leader must have some knowledge about the work that is
being done so that they can enhance their performance according to the work for organization
gains. Social judgment skills are one of the most important qualities in an organization.
According to scholars no two person is like thus it is important to socially judge people in
organization and make plans that satisfy each of the different needs of the different people
that help to maintain harmony and peace in the workplace (Chamorro-Premuzic, 2016).

Professional skills are another competency that has been mentioned here, this skill is
important in an organization. Effective and efficient professional skills help to do the
assigned job in stipulated time and contribute to the success of the organization (Van Der
Vleuten et al, 2018).
Future goals
In recent times, in the age of globalization the operations of a business has changed
immensely and emphasis is put on communication and a positive diverse workplace. A
diverse workplace contributes immensely to the success of the organization. The team I
currently handle is a team that consists of people from diverse culture and I make sure that
communication is maintained so that there is a sense of belongingness which is another
motivational factor that helps in motivating employees to perform well. Ethics is another
factor that most organizations put emphasis on and I make sure that there is a positive and
healthy relationship between my team members but I also make sure to create a boundary.
I believe that values are something which will always be important and thus following
values and providing a healthy work atmosphere to the employee help in boosting their
morale. I usually appreciate for the performance that is put which motivates employees. I
believe the traits I have will positively help me in the near future to become a more efficient
team leader because of the experience and the knowledge that I will put into action.
Maintaining diverse work cultures will help me be a better leader as the global economy is
growing and this is the key factor that will contribute to the success of the organization I
work for as well for my career.

Conclusion
Leadership is an important quality which every person has and uses in some point in
their life. Leadership helps contribute to the success of an organization and also help in the
personal development of a person. Organizations without leaders these days mean nothing as
leaders are considered to be a vital part that help and boosts team members and facilitates
performance from them in order to make sure the organizations makes a positive mark in the
global market.
