INTRODUCTION Leadership refers to a process of influencing others for attainment of group goals and objectives. This helps to provide direction to employees and team members which helps to attain success of team(Armstrong and Taylor, 2020). Leaders plays various roles in an organisation as it helps to provide direction to employees, motivate them and inspire them and communicate with them in order to provide solution to their problems. This project report include discussion about research of company and identification of theories and model to be included in leadership and management. It critically analyse role of leader in an organisation and also refection of an individual from their own experience. TASK 1 Research about Ebay Ebay Inc. is one of American organisation based on San Jose, California providing their business at international in e-commerce.This enterprise is offering business to consumer and consumer to consumer sales. Ebay is introduced in the year 1995 by Pierre Omidyar in U.S. Company has expanded their business in around 32 countries in different parts of world(Day and Liu, 2018). This is one of successful organisation in dot-com and their business is manage through their websites. This website is related to online auctionand shopping through which customers and business can buy as well as sell variety of products ad service. Company made this website free for buyer and charge fees from sellers in order to listing items after free listing of limited numbers of items. Company also change fees from business after their listing items are sold on websites. This enterprise is not only selling original auction of style but also expanded and evolved in order to includes buy it now method of shopping, classified online advertisement, shopping with universal code product, ISBN, SKU numbers, online trading of event ticket and many more. This organisation has also sold online money transfers as their service. TASK 2 Trait theory of leadership: Trait theory of leadership is one of theory which is based on different characteristics of various leaders which include both successful as well as unsuccessful leaders and used to forecast effectiveness of leadership(Dhar, 2016). In this, resulting trait list are compared to other 1
potential leaders in order to assess success and failure. This trait approach of leadership is used to identify personality, physiologic, self confidence,demographic, task related, intellective as well as other social characteristics with effectiveness of leader and emergence. Leaders of Ebay Inc. has characteristics like interest, ability, personality trait which is different form others who are less effective which make them successful. There are various set of traits identified for successful leader but these trait are not along responsible in order to identify success of a leader instead it is taken as preconditions which endow individual with potential of leadership. Some of characteristics of successful leaders in leaders and managers include emotional maturity, self confidence, achievement drive, motivation, integrity and honesty, knowledge about business and many more. AdvantageDisadvantage ï‚·This theory is based on concept that leaders are distinctive form other which makethemsuccessfuland unsuccessful.Everypersonhas differentcharacteristicswhichmake them different from others(Gardner- McTaggart, 2020). ï‚·Traittheoryofleadershipisoneof theory which is based on evidence and researchandisoneofconfirm approach. ï‚·Traittheoryisone of theory which provide benchmark for identification of leaders. ï‚·Thistheoryofleadershipisleader centric theory which does not focus on situation or leader but only leader. ï‚·There are some finding related to this theorywhichareambitionand subjectivehatleadstowards uncertainty. ï‚·In trait theory, traits are innate which makethemunusualforpurposeof training and development. ï‚·Thistheoryisalsooneofcomplex theory which is difficult to understand for user. Development of organisational structure and flow communication:Leaders define structure of organisation which outline command and responsibility of every members working in an enterprise. They also definer communication student of firm in order to allow free flow of communication which helps to reduce confusion and miscommunication in people. All these things helps to understand each members what is their responsibility to whom they needs to report. With free flow of communication, organisation can reduce time of information sharing in business which is important for effective performance of firm. Leaders of ebay are developing organisation structure and communication structure in a business which helps them to managing people in business effectively and also to ensure free flow of communication in an organisation. Inspire and motivate:It is duty of leaders to motivate members of team in order to generate urge, willingness and dedication which helps employees to work with more dedication (Pourrajab and Ghani, 2016). It improve performance of employees and also increase their engagement with work. This motivation can be done in many ways by offering them promotion, bonus, paid leaves, holiday packages and many more. It improve employees performance and also inspire them employees to work with more dedication to get rewards for their work. Leaders of Ebay motivate and inspire their employees to coordinate with each others and also complete their work with more dedication and willingness. It helps company to attain their goals and objectives of business. TASK 4 Reflection of own experience of leadership Reflection refers to process which helps a person to review their experience in order to make effective learning form their experience. For this, there are various model of reflection 3
including Gibbs model of reflection. Gibbs model of refection is give by Graham Gibbs in the year 1988 which allow a person reflect their views from their experience. Description:For this project, my senior gave me permission to select a team by include members of my choice. In this, I selected some individual in order to form team which has different skills and knowledge in order to perform task on time(Putri, Mirzania and Hartanto, 2020). For this I adopt tuckmen theory of team building which allow me to follow certain steps including forming, storming, performing or adjourning stage. In this first stage is forming of team, team members are unsure about purpose of forming team, their way to fit in and how they work with co-ordinating with others. When I made team at organisation, all members are curious about these questions and also excited to work in team. In storming stage, all individual are started to give push to each other against boundaries. There are some conflicts occur in these stage which I face while developing team. Norming stage includes resolution of conflicts and differences in people. In this, I played an effective role to solve problems of team members. In this stage of team building, team is attained goals of organisation with following guidance of leaders and with their handwork or dedication. Last stage came after completion of a project. In this there are some problems occurred due to conflict in team but I solve these conflicts effectively in order to complete our project on time. Feelings:While doing this project, I learn new things and also taking it as my responsibility. I feed responsible and sensible and also happy and frustrated at same time. Before starting this project, I was feeling nervous and excited about my work(Tur, Harstad and Antonakis, 2018). I am nervous about various things like how will this project complete, which type of people are to be included in team, are they are ready to work under my guidance. But at same time, I was happy as my senior trusted on me and gave me this responsibility. Also there is link between this project and my promotion. Success of my promotion is largely depend on this project. After completion of this project, I feel happy and satisfied as me and my whole team work with dedication and willingness. All these things are important for mefor my career development. During this project, There is conflict occur between tow members sue to miscommunication of division of work which create disturbance in team working. All team members are doing work for this project with more dedication and willingness. They are ready to coordinate with other members and me. During this conflict situation other members feel distracted from work and started making judgement about two members. But now these people are thinking about this 4
situation differently after solving problems. During this situation, I got frustrated as these team members are not ready to solve conflict in team. But now I think, I should not got frustrated instead thinking with relax mind. Evaluation:There are various things which are good in this experience and there are some things which make this experience bad. But all over it was good experience as me and my team completed our project on time and coordinating with each others(Wang, Yuan, and Zhu, 2017). That conflict situation make this situation bad but after effectively solve this problem, it allow me and my team to be completed our project on time. While division of work, I collect all team members and divide work according to their skills and knowledge but one of team members are absent on that day. So other members make him understand about his work. Due to this, there is miscommunication occur related to their work. In this, they are doing same work and not ready to understand that this work is to be completed by only one person. In this, other people tried to make them understand but they did not listen to them. In this disputation, I take lead and communicate with both of them and find solution to this situation. Analysis:Thing goes well due to coordinate of team members and my choice of skilled employees. Also I allow each members to communicate with me and other effectively. Things did not go well due to some miscommunication and ignore absence of one members. After, this situation I understand that leader should communicate with all members directly related to make members of team understand about their work. In this my knowledge of communication and conflict resolution helps me to better understand situation and by communicating with members helps them to resolve problems. Conclusion:There are various things which I learn from this situation as how to deal with situation where there is conflict occur between team members. This could be more positive if conflict is not occur in team members as it allow us to complete project prior to deadline given by senior. There are various skills like ocmmunicaio9tn skill, problems solving skills, conflict resolution skills helps to handle tins situation effectively in future. Action Plan:If same situation occur in future, than I act differently as it helps me to understand and handle situation effectively. These skills can be developed through life experience and involving in such group projects at workplace. I make sure, I act differently next time as it allow me to handle situation effectively. 5
