Business operations depends on communication, effective communication between employees
helps business organizations in successful business operations. Any kind of conflict between the
employees of firm affects the business operations and performance of firm in the targeted
market. Mr. Fishy is a London based restaurant which deals in fish and chips. It has employees
of different countries, culture and age groups. People of different age groups and cultures have
different mindset, viewpoint and perception towards thongs which can create conflict between
the employees. Conflict between employees can affect the performance of business
organizations. Effective business communication helps in maintain the communication with the
employees as well as with the clients and customers. There can be different barriers and
challenges affecting the organizational communication. Mr. Fishy needs to develop efficient
strategies for eliminating these barriers of communication for effective communication practices.
Various communication techniques will help the owner of Mr. Fishy in maintain proper
communication between the employees and with the other clients and customers which will
benefit the restaurant.

Mr Fishy deals in fishes and chips with almost 20 staff members of different cultures and age
groups. Recently there are some issues in the surrounding area because of Brexit, which has
created tensions between the British and Non-British employees. Mr Fishy is facing some serious
issues in business operations due to the conflicts between the employees as all the employees of
different age group and their objectives and goals are different. Effective communication is the
key of successful business operations for every firm. Communication can be of various types
including verbal communication, Non-verbal communication, and online communication, visual
communication, and written communication, formal and informal communication. Conflicts
between the employees can be created due to the unavailability of effective business
communication. Effective business communication faces various challenges and barriers in
organizations like Mr Fishy which involves the followings:
Linguistic Barriers: Language is the most important component of communication and it is the
main barrier to effective communication as every region has different language. So
communicating the employees of other organizations is difficult due to linguistic reasons and an

organization can have people from different regions (Anamaria-Mirabela & Monica-Ariana,
2019).
Emotional Barriers: Emotions like low sense of humor, frustration and anger can affect the
communication as well as decision making of any person.
Differences in viewpoint and perception: No two person can have same perception about any
fact so there can be conflicts between the viewpoint of employees in the firm as well as with the
employees of other business representative which can be the barrier to the effective business
communication.
Systematic Barriers includes all the challenges faced in telecommunication and online medium
of communication. Lack of interest and attention towards the conversation can also be a barrier
in the communication.
For maintaining effective communication seven aspects should be present in the communication:
clarity, capability, continuity, context, content, credibility and channels.
Cultural influences also affects the communication and negotiations in the business organizations
as different cultures have different point of view towards the negotiation process. Negotiation
process differentiates from individual to individual. Negotiation styles can also be different for

different regions. Cultural influences at the level of language are very difficult to deal for
example two clients one is speaking in Chinese and other is in German cannot communicate or
negotiate with each other effectively. Differences in values affects the decision making of
individuals. Methods of non-verbal behaviors are different for every individual which affects the
decision making of employees in the organizations. Mr Fishy can implement various strategies
for maintaining the effective business communication and these strategies should be based on
communication theories. Firm needs to hire right people for various roles by analyzing their
language speaking capabilities and decision making capabilities for eliminating the differences
of perception between the employees. While communicating with other employees of same firm
as well as with the employees of other organizations employees should listen actively and with
interest foe making the communication more effective (Golen, 2019). It helps people in
understanding the message in a better way. Management of Mr Fishy should prioritize the work
according to preferences to escape from information overloading. Individuals of two different
language should hire a mediator for maintaining proper communication. Person conveying the
messages should take feedback from the receivers to ensure the communication. People should
communicate in a medium which is free from any kind of noise for proper communication. Firm
has different levels of employees so the communication process should be between the
employees of different levels for making it more effective. All these strategies will help Mr.
Fishy in effective business operations (Govindarajan & Gupta, 2018).

As per the meeting conducted in Mr Fishy some issues has been identified in the organization on
internal as well as on external level. Internal issues includes the conflicts between the employees
of different cultures and different age groups. Mr Fishy has employees of different cultures
including British and non-British culture. People working in the firm are of different age group
so they have different expectations and objectives which has created conflicts between the
employees. These scenarios affecting the business of the firm. There are some conflicts because
of the change in the operational structure of the firm. For reducing the effects of these conflicts
on business operations of firm some strategies based on organisational communication theories
has been implemented in the firm. Organisational communication helps the organization as well
as its employees in achieving its objectives and goals. Effective communication helps in
eliminating the conflicts between employees. These conflicts can be reduced by redefining the
responsibilities and rules of various employees. For successful business operations employees of
firm needs to coordinate with the external organizations for various business purposes so the
interaction with third party people with company employees should be proper (Ocasio, et. al.,
2018).
Organisational Communication
Mr Fishy requires effective communication for successful operations this communication can be
formal or informal. Formal communication in organizations includes the flow of information in
the hierarchal manner like form upper management to staff and from staff to upper level
management. Informal communication or interpersonal communication includes the other ways
of communication like casual communication between employees, online and telecommunication
etc. All the managers and employees working in the organization should follow basic rules and
regulations set by the organization related to the behavioral aspects to maintain the proper work
environment in the firm. Organisational behavior includes all the behavioral aspects which are
required for motivating the employees of firm to work in an efficient manner. That is the reason
that every job advertisement mentions communication skills required for the eligibility for the
job. Proper communication between the employees helps the employees in performing the tasks
in a better way and in improving the performance of employees if it is required (Lunenburg.,

Principals of effective communication
Effective communication is the process of information sharing with a particular message which
needs to be understood by every person involved in the communication. Effective
communication helps in the successful business operations of any firm. Effective formal
communication should be concise and should provide proper information.
Maintaining Professionalism: In business communication the person represents its employer so
that person needs to maintain professionalism in written as well as in oral communication. For
maintaining professionalism the person should speak in positive way and should support team
work. The person should be careful with his words for avoiding any kind of criticism.
Understanding the audience: For maintaining communication the person needs to understand
the audience with which he needs to communicate for better opportunities, motivation and goals.
Active Listening and understanding: Listening is the important part of communication but only
listening is not enough, people should actively participate in the communication for
