Executive summary
The technological advancement and successful globalization have seen the rise of the hospitality
and tourism industry over the past decade especially in Australia which has been the backbone of
a strong economy. Additionally, Asia had proven to have a strong appetite for the industry with
China and New Zealand being the higher tourist exporters so far. This has led to the increased
demand for hospitality venues to cater for the growing demand. However, for increased
competitive advantage locations and architectural designs seems to be the basis of the current
competition in the industry. This paper reviews and discusses the importance of the architectural
design of the Element of Byron beach resort located over a 50acre piece of land complemented
with a two-kilometer beach front. This facility is fitted with leisure and state of the art
conference and event facilities as well as unique accommodations under the ‘beach shacks.
Additionally, the paper will discuss the target market while also reviewing the capital works
program. Finally, the paper will look at how the facility hands its energy efficiency and waste
management and recommendations will be given if the paper evaluated that the facility is lacking
in the sector
