PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOP1
Part 1
Introduction
The ability to understand and monitor own emotions as well as the emotions of other
people in order to make the difference between the emotions and to use those emotional
information in order to guide the behavior and the thought process of a person is known as
emotional intelligence (Miao, Humphrey and Qian 2017). It has been seen that most
organisations have been focusing on emotional intelligence in the workplace as it has been
labeled as a very valuable skill as it helps in improving communication in the workplace,
managing the workplace, helps in solving issues in the workplace and also helps in building
positive relationships in the workplace. According to many researchers, emotional
intelligence is a skill which can be enhanced if received proper and efficient training
(Mattingly and Kraiger 2019). The importance of emotional intelligence in the organisation
has become vital for the fruitful productivity and operations of an organisation. This paper
will focus on providing a professional development workshop which aims on helping
employees develop and enhance their emotional intelligence skills for their and the growth of
the organisation.
Discussion
Emotional intelligence has become extremely important in the workplace and
according to researchers and scholars, self-awareness helps in understanding the needs of
one’s own and if certain events occurred the facilitating an evaluation of the alternative

another person without having a proper sense of oneself and understanding how to operate in
an emotional level. The emotional intelligence level usually distinguishes the leaders in an
organisation and it is their skill which helps in developing an effective and productive
workplace. Thus, emotional intelligence as a skill has been a priority for every recruiter and it
is important for organisations to try to enhance the emotional intelligence skills for the
existing employees and the employees who are going to join to make the workplace more
effective. In order to do this, the organisations need to come up with a professional
development workshop which will aim at improving and enhancing the emotional
intelligence of the employees in the workplace or the organisations.
