IntroductionThe current paper is concerned with the review of the portfolio author has created during the course and aligning that portfolio according to the employers. The job profile for which the paper is being written is Game Level Designer. Alignment of job skills as per the need of the market or the employer to ensure that the employability remains for the coming days is important. The advancement in the technology and fast paced job market requires that the skills are updated on continuous basis to stay employable. However, for the individual who isjust getting out of the education system and entering into the job market, it is important that the self-assessment is done regarding the skillsets that are present and those that are required by the market. The current paper has tried to look at various facets of this aspect. The second chapter on trends and techniques focuses on understanding where the job market stands todayregarding the Game Level Designer. The chapter on legal and ethical issues cover the legal and ethical aspects associated with the employment in the selected area. The fourth chapter details the evidences that are the proof supporting the future employment in the chosen field. The fifth chapter on the development plan will detail on the plan prepared for the career of the author considering the earlier chapters. The chapter on the development rationale details the reasoning behind the plan developed based on the evidences in the third chapter. Current Trends and TechniquesThe Game Level Designer works for the games and engage in the development of various levels in a particular game. The professionals working as the game level designer work with other professionals within a team that is working on the development of a particular game (Recruiter, 2017). The tool that is used by the game level designers (GLD) is called level editors. The level editors help the GLD in developing multiple levels in the game as per the
requirement without messing the actual code of the game that is developed by the game programmer. The responsibility of the GLD requires that the levels are created without constant design and feel. The procedure of designing the level requires that the GLD develop entire game levels such as map development, cities, tunnels, and others. These are the environments that are built for the game. Added to that, GLD engages in developing item locations, addition of characters that are not the actual part of the game (side kick), preparing appropriate dialogue suitable according to the game scenarios, and other different game related activities (Stuart and Webber, 2017). Therefore, it is important that the author should have strong game design background along with the appropriate understanding of the tools and techniques that are used to build or design the game. The Game Level Designers should be able to spend their rest of their life sitting on the computer and fiddling with various game level strategies. It is important that the individual is able to sit and work for longer hours in isolation. However, it should be understood that the team work is key in the game development (Nationalcareersservice.direct.gov.uk, 2017). The procedures considering the development of a particular game require proper communication with everybody involved. They can be internal team members or they can be the individuals from the outside the company such as clients. Therefore, it is important that the GLD understand the requirements of all the stakeholders clearly and for this the GLD should have good communication skill (Ma et al., 2014). A good communication skill refers to the ability to effectively understand what the person in-front is trying to say and convey the right message across. An interesting trend is present in the market as per the job and requirements of GLDs are concerned. The Bureau of Labour Statistics had identified that more than 57% of GLDs are working as freelancers for different clients and companies (Nationalcareersservice.direct.gov.uk, 2017).
