1EMPLOYEE COUNSELING The employee who is found to be falling asleep during the office hours and on the office premises is a student who in part time attends college as well as work in the organization in the role of the production assistant in the printing and layout department of newspaper. The situation is found to be a problem as it is a violation of the organizational discipline. Sleeping in th office premises is considered as a major misconduct. The steps which should have been taken to remediate the situation before is to conduct a oral session where the employees are to be daught the disciplinary procedures properly and the self- dicipline monitoring is to be done. He know the disciplinary rules of the company as well the job responsibilities expected out of him. The resources required to perform the job is also not inadequate with the timing being mandatory to product output. He has the necessary printing and organizaing skills. He is fully aware of the organizational code of conduct, however his act of sleeping has been found to beintentional. The job performance expectations with the time, duty hours, target and the quality requirements have been communicated to him. The problem has an adverse effect on the employee in the sense that he can be penalized in the form of suspension and with a written warning to commit such indiscipline. It also will effect the other coworkers creating a tension in the team and the overburden of work on others. The agency will be effected with the loss of productivity for a certain amout of period due to vacancy of one post. It will also affect my position as a supervisor and I can be penalized also for not reporting it or considered unproductive in my duty. There are obstaacles out of the employee’s control like the family condition of supporting 3 kids in the home as well as balncing the education with the job which are getting in the way of his performance. He is bound by the pressure of his family and organization. I have accidently rewarded poor performance through my behavior of negligence in looking at the baseline issue and out of stereotypical judgment being a senior in the team. Not everyone is exhibiting the same kind of problem, but this employee is suffering from mental pressure and out of stress and burnout performs the misconduct. The incapability of handling work-life balance reduced his performece which I overlooked it as the cause of the poor performance.
