INTRODUCTION Absenteeism mainly comprises of the time that is taken off by an employee from work due to illness or any other reasons for staying away from work (Sajayan and et. al., 2021). Thus, absenteeism is one of the main reason and cause for reduction in the performance and productivity level of a company as it leads to unproductive workforce and teams and also creates unnecessary delays and mismanagement at the workplace. Therefore, many companies of the world have started to have more focus and emphasis on the employee engagement programmes that helps in reducing the issue of absenteeism. Main Body Employee engagement programmes basically comprises of the strategy and initiatives that are taken by the company to make their employees feel for passionate and committed with their work. Thus, employee engagement is something that drives higher performance and present about the extent to which the emolyess of a firm feel passionate and motivated towards there work. High employee absenteeism has become a major cause of decline in the productivity and performance level of a firm as it leads to habitual absence of employee from work that can be due to family issue, illness and job dissatisfaction (Ackers and Adebayo, 2021). Therefore, the companies like Tesco, Microsoft, Marks and Spencer, Aston martin and many more have started to focus on employee engagement program to ensure higher retention of talented worker along with reducing their absenteeism level. Tesco believes in offering a comfortable workplace environment along with fairly compensated salary and other incentives for its employees as a part of its employee engagement programme. It has been analysed that the comfortable and positive workplace environment creates a positive physiological impact on the mind and body of the employees that motivates them to remain present at their job role and reduce the chances of the absenteeism.
