EMPLOYEE LABOR RELATIONS DISCUSSIONS QUESTION 2Views about seniority-based teacher layoffsThe Seniority based teacher layoff means that the senior teachers becomes unemployed or lose their jobs after a certain age. It also means that the senior teachers are removed from their position based on their age and not because of their performance and skills. It is possible as the teachers irrespective of their age can provide the students with better knowledge and skills helping the former to handle difficult situations properly. They can even help the students to gain success in both the present as well as in the future life. So, the idea of Seniority based teacher layoff cannot be accepted. Other reasons are—first, it is possible that some senior teachers are able to perform their responsibilities efficiently than the new teachers. They are able to explain the subjects properly, able to motivate the students to give their best and solve the problems with proper solutions. Third, the experience and the knowledge which the senior teachers can be used to guide and improve the future of the students properly (Armstrong and Taylor, 2014). Fourth reason against the initiative of the senior layoff is that if the teachers are unemployed or removed from their position due to age then it will be difficult to provide the needed students with better knowledge and skills. It is because it may not be possible for a less experienced teacher to handle and solve the problems of the students with better solutions. Fifth, the idea of senior based teacher layoff is not acceptable as it may be difficult to engage and motivate the students to work hard for accomplishing the targets. The reason is that due to seniority layoff, many teachers may not focus on the overall development of the students which can be harmful for the former. The students may not get the opportunity to improve themselves by inheriting and improving various skills and abilities along with knowledge. The final reason of not accepting the initiative is that the students can also get a good opportunity to learn and improve themselves by learning new things from the experiences of the senior teachers.
