INRODUCTION
Employee relation is concerned with managing the relationship between the employers
and employees of the company. It is related to organisations efforts relating to the develop and
maintain a favourable relationship with their employees (Alagaraja and Shuck, 2015). With this,
the organisation will be able to retain employees and motivates them to work with full
confidence and zeal. Organisation undertaken in this report is Amazon which was founded in
1994 and deals in e commerce and cloud computing industries. It serves various products and
services to its customers like Amazon fire TV, kindle, loyalty cards, prime videos, etc. This
report will explain the principles of employee relation in context of the organisation. It will also
explain the fundamentals of the employment law which is applicable to a particular organisation.
This will also determine the rights, duties and obligations of employee relation. It will analyse
the role of different stakeholders who is involved in assisting favourable relationship. This will
also evaluate the impact of positive and negative employee relationship.

P1. Value and importance of employee relation.
Employee relations is concerned with the inner part of the human resource management.
In Amazon, employee relation is the interaction of the employees and they all have different
roles to affect the employment relations (Avery, Smillie and Fife-Schaw, 2015). This relation
between the employee and employer is very curial and plays a vital role because of the
performance within the organisation. This employee relation is very essential for the success of
the organisation. When there will be good and effective relations between the employees and
employer and than they will be aware of the responsibilities of one another and this will facilitate
the fair and cultivable working atmosphere. Favourable working relationships creates a
cooperative climate with efforts towards the accomplishment of business goals and objectives.
Value of employee relation
When the organisation is able to maintain healthy atmosphere then it will be treated as
pre requisite for the success of the organisation (Brammer and Mellahi, 2015). When the
employee relation base is stronger and requires higher productivity and satisfaction of human
beings. Employee relation is important at workplace because every individual working at any
level in the organisation will need some one to talk and share the feeling. When people will be

able to talk to one another then this will develop friendly relation among employees. This kind of
relation is helpful in developing conflict free and comfortable working atmosphere for the
people.
Importance of employee relation
In an Amazon, communication plays a vital role for enhancing the employee relation. It is
useful in improving the relations among the employees (Chen and. et. al., 2016). With the flow
of information and communication between departments, the employees are able to convey their
problems to the top level management and the top management will communicate the solutions
of their problems by determining them the mission and vision of the company which will help
them in the manner in which the work is required to be performed. Good and effective employee
relation in the Amazon will create a pleasant atmosphere within the working environment. This
maximises the motivation level of employees and also encourages them to work with full
potential and zeal. When the company will be able to create favourable working atmosphere then
it will have drastic impact on the loyalty of the employees in the businesses. This further helps in
minimising the labour turnover rate and absenteeism by retaining the employees within the
organisation.
Employee relation also minimises the chances of conflict and even if any conflict arises
then people are able to deal with such conflicts by providing them with win win solutions which
will be advantageous for both the conflicting parties (Eldor and Vigoda-Gadot, 2017). The
morale of the employee is concerned with that one feels safe and secure within the organisation
and this is very important because by this, employees will work with full concentration and stress
free mind that can generate more productive results for the company. Employee relation is also
important in Amazon for delegation of work because this helps in dividing the larger task into
smaller one and then they are assigned to the different individuals by keeping in mind their skills
and capabilities which helps them in accomplishing the task within the specified time frame.
Furthermore, the organisation must focus on eliminating the favouritism which will be useful in
treating all the employees fairly and equally. This is very important at the workplace otherwise
some employees may feel neglected and may not work according to their skills and potentials. It
also signifies that employees must be dependent upon the healthy and safe working environment.
Thus, strong employer and employee relation will be beneficial for the company.

In every day business, each and every employee require adequate dose of motivation so
that they work with full concentration and attention. For this purpose, Amazon will provide
financial and non financial motivations like respect, recognition, appraisal, incentives, bonuses,
etc. to their employees which will help them to work harder and attain business goals and
objectives in an effective ad efficient manner (Flammer and Luo, 2017). The goals must be set
properly and employees must be aware of all the business objectives and goals which will make
them aware about the work which is required to be performed by them and assure that it will be
attained in an effective manner. Thus, the employees must have strong relations at the workplace
which is crucial to boost the efficiency of the company.
P2. Fundamentals of employment law.
Employment laws and legislations are concerned with extensive range of various rule and
regulations which are legally bound. Amazon will adopt these rules and regulations in order to
direct the relationship between the employer and employees (Employment law. 2019). Theses
rules and regulations will protect the rights and interest of the people towards the attainment of
business goals and objectives. The following are the fundamentals of employment laws which
are discussed below : National minimum wage act : This act is concerned with specifying the minimum wages
for the employees below which they are not legally entitled to work. For this purpose,
Amazon in UK has decided to render £8.21 per hour for the workers who are of 25 years
or above. It will give £7.70 per hour to the workers who are in age group between 21-24,
£6.15 per hour to the workers who are in age group of people between 18-20 years, etc. Working Time regulation act : This act was enacted from 1998 and is concerned with
providing employees with the working time over and above which they are not entitled to
work. This will help Amazon in applying restrictions that every individual is require to
work on an average of 48 hours in a week and 8 hours a day. They also render employees
with the paid sick leaves and relaxation breaks which will motivate the people (Haider
and. et. al., 2015). Holiday entitled and pay : Every individual is requires holidays and paid leaves. In an
Amazon UK, the employees has a at least 28 days statutory paid leaves or 5.6 weeks
which also includes the public holidays. There are important fluctuations in recent time

where there is regulation of law for the holiday pay and includes over time and
commissions. The quality act 2010 : This act in UK is entitled to give equal pay for the workers who
are performing the same task in the organisation irrespective of their gender. That is,
Amazon will assures that both man and women will get equal pay for the equal amount of
work performed by them without any partiality. Bullying and Harassment of work : The clause for unethical practises of bullying and
harassment at the workplace is concerned with protecting the employees at the
organisational premises from unethical or wrong behaviour of co workers (Heckscher,
2018). The Equality act 2010 has special law for this purpose, where it insure that strict
actions will be taken by individuals in Amazon who exploits or harasses any person at the
workplace and this type of behaviour will not be tolerated in the organisation. Public interest Disclosure act 1998 : This act has serious concern relating to the whistle-
blowing. A whistle blower is the person who encourages and inspires people within the
organisation to take part in illegal activities and unethical practices. For example, in
Amazon financial malpractices, risk of health and safety, criminal offence, inability to
abide by legal obligations, etc.
 Data protection act 2018 : This act is concerned with protecting crucial information and
providing an assurance that it is used properly and legally. It will help Amazon in
protecting the information from sharing with outside parties.

An employee is an individual who works for the organisation either on regular basis or
part time and in return they get salary or pay for the work performed by them. They are hired by
the recruiting team of the company (Jafri, Dem and Choden, 2016). Whereas, employer is a
person who is responsible for assigning work and hires the services of the employees. They are
also involved in planning different organisational activities. Therefore, each employee and
employer has different set of rights, duties and obligation in Amazon. This is required
necessarily to be understood in detail.

period of time. For making healthy environment, management of Amazon have duty to make
effective relationships with their employees so that they do not feel dissatisfied while performing
their duties at workplace. In order to making effective relations, management of Amazon can
take support from their staff members in decision-making through this, management will not
only encourage them to work hard but also they will also dedicated for performing their duties in
well manner. Furthermore, when healthy relations will be build at workplace then it will be
easier for reducing conflicts and issues from firm which are usually faced by both parties at
workplace. Some of the advices are given as below which can be used by managers of Amazon
for improving relations with their employees:
 Employee relationship:- In Amazon, management uses strict structure at workplace and
employees are being forced by management to work harder so as to increase productivity
of firm which is the main reason behind issues of Amazon's workplace. In order to
resolving these kind of issues of workplace, management of Amazon have to use several
strategies so that experienced and skilled employees can be retained at workplace for
longer period of time. Such as they can provide flexible working hours to their employees

so that they feel motivated while performing duties at workplace. In addition, they can
also hire more employees at temporary basis when the peak season is exist within the
firm so that heavy pressure not be faced by experienced and capable employees and they
will be retained in the workplace for longer period of time.
 Health & Safety:- In this, Amazon have to make focuses on making healthy and safe
working environment at workplace so that they can work freely without facing trouble at
workplace. As government have formulated several laws and legislations for
employment. Therefore, each organisation like Amazon have duty to follow these
legislations considerably so that any trouble wouldn't be faced by them in future.
Therefore, management of Amazon have duty to apply proper health and safety measures
at workplace so that employees feels motivated while working at the workplace of
Amazon. They can also provide extra pay to their workers on their extra work which will
leads the firm towards growth and success in market(Zhang and Wang, 2015).

The stakeholder is the an individual or group of people who has significant interest in the
results of the organisation (Jiang, Zhao and Ni, 2017). These people are directly or indirectly has
a interest in the organisation. These stakeholders can be either within the organisation or exist
outside the organisation. Therefore, internal stakeholders are those people who have the interest
in the company's operations directly like employees, investors, etc. while external stakeholders
are those that do not directly work within the organisation like customers, suppliers, etc. The
following is the stakeholder analyses of Amazon and they are discussed below :
Customers : Amazon gives prominent preferences to its customers because all the
products and services which it produces is for the customers so that they can provide satisfaction
to their customers. Every organisation works for the sake of earning profitability and this can be
done only by selling their products and services to the customers. If customers are not happy
with the organisation then this can create a greater impact on the operations of the company. The
stakeholder group of customer demands new and innovative products each alternate day. For
their satisfaction, Amazon keeps on introducing new services and products which will attract

them and provides them with satisfaction (Kaliannan and Adjovu, 2015). For this, customers are
highly price conscious and for this, the company has maintained the prices by comparing
themselves with their competitors. Thus, Amazon offers them fair pricing. As the company is
indulge in E commerce industry, it is highly preferable from customers view point that the
company must ensure the secrecy of the transaction and other banking information. If there will
be fraud through hacking or any other illegal act then the customer may not purchase the
products from the company. Apart from this, the online shopping is just not sufficient for
satisfying customer because the customers also want after sale services. Furthermore, they want
quick delivery so company is highly focussed towards increasing their logistics and for this, they
have also launched Amazon drone which assures to deliver the product in a hour.
Employees : As above said that no organisation can run its operations with effective
customer base, similarly employees are also important to tap those customer base. Employees are
the powerful source and asset of the organisation who are continuously involved in providing
new products to the customers (Mittal and Dhar, 2015). They have an interest in the development
of their future and career and in competitive compensation. They assist in the culture of the
Amazon. The large pool of highly skilled and expertise workforce plays a greater role in
initiating innovate products which in turn maximises the efficiency of the organisation. For
satisfying employees and keeps them happy, Amazon closely works to render various leadership
and motivation programs which will determine their higher growth and potentiality. Company
will focus employees of information technology department and provide them higher salaries and
compensation because they are treated as the most important group of employees who are
responsible for managing all the software and technical equipments which is very important in an
e commerce industry because failure of any one system will adversely affect the entire system of
technology. Furthermore, the company is generating numerous opportunities for its employees
due to its increasing expansion of work in global market.
Corporate social responsibility : In an Amazon, the corporate social group of
stakeholders has significant impact. This helps in assisting the mission and vision statement of
the company which will affect the organisational development. It is considered to be suitable for
the Amazon to giving preferences to the customers who have the interest in the online shopping .
The customer of the organisation are happier and have immense flexibility because they can
select their charitable agency with the help of Amazon smile. The investors also have keen

interest on the CSR activities of the company because they have an interest on financial stability
ad performance of the organisation on the e commerce business (Radda, Majidadi and Akanno,
2015). They also considered various environmental issues and for this it has also developed the
Amazon rainforest which consist of various ecosystems and is so big that it covers various
countries.

P6. Impact of negative and positive employee relation on different stakeholders.
Employee relations are very important in the present business scenario. Everybody needs
someone to talk and this helps in developing relations with the employees. When employee
relations are good then this will lead the company to the greater heights but when this employee
relation is poor and is not good enough then this can lead to the greater loss for the companies.
For instance, if employee relations between the employer and employees are good then,
people will work with full efficiency and efforts within the organisation (Schumacher and. et. al.,
2016). This good relation can be made by taking regular feedback from the employees regarding
the understanding of the work, asking them if any issues or troubles they are facing, encouraging
them regularly with effective means of motivation, providing them flexibility in their work, etc.
When relation will be good and effective then employer can request employees to work over
time during the peak season and employees will be able to work in accordance with it.
At the same time, poor employee relation will have adverse impact on the organisations
operations. For instance, if the company does not have good relations with the logistics partners
and delivery executives, then there will be poor and late delivery of products can take place. In
such circumstances, customers may be frustrated because the product which was to be received
on specified due date has not received on that date and customer can also cancel the product due
to late delivery. Furthermore, if proper customer services and complaints are not handled then
this can create serious problem in the organisation. The maximum income generated by the
company is through the sale of the products to the customers but if customer is disappointed by
the service of the company then they can create negative word of mouth which will have
significant impact on the organisation. The employees are also required to be timely motivated
because if they will not be happy with the services and products of the company then this can
create problem as the company will fail to develop new and innovative products. Apart from this,

employees have the capability to identify and analyse the demand of the customers within the
organisation so that business goals and objectives can be attained but if they will not be satisfied
then it will become difficult for the company to know what kind of products are required in the
market (Sigala and Chalkiti, 2015). Customers complaints must be handled as quickly as
possible otherwise the company can lose one of the loyal customers and while handling their
complains, the organisation must be polite, calm and kind by patiently listening to the problem
and query faced by the customer otherwise they can file a case against companies.
CONCLUSION
It has been summarised from the above report that employer-employee relations plays
very important role in growth and success of each firm because without these, healthy relations
any firm can't gain high productivity or profitability in marketplace. Effective relations not only
builds healthy environment at workplace but also it encourages the employees to perform their
duties with full of their efficiencies. In addition, for maintaining effective employee relations,
management can provide flexible working hours or extra pay on the work to their employees so
that they does not feel embarrassed while performing duties at workplace. Furthermore,
employer have duty to oblige several legislations which are made by government of a nation so
that productivity or profitability of firm would be maintained in marketplace. As the employees
are considered main stakeholders within the organisation than employer have duty to consider
needs and wants of them so that through fulfilling them sustainability would be gained in
marketplace.
