CHAPTER 4: METHODOLOGY EXPLAINATION
Research method: It is one of the main research methodology’ element that shows the
form of data collection. Qualitative is the most common used type of research in which
researcher focuses on collecting data in the form of text, feeling. This type of research does not
have any link with numerical form of data (Allan, 2020). Whereas, quantitative is the type of
research in which, researcher collects data that is related with numbers. For this study, researcher
has conducted qualitative study by finding information from pre-existing theories and collecting
descriptive information. It can make researcher able in knowing all about employees’
engagement and accordingly, it can accomplish the main aim of conducting research.
Access: For this study, researcher has selected 5 managers for conducting semi-
structured interviews by random method in order to make them feel valued. Online
consent is being taken from participants. The main aim of selecting 5 managers for
interview process is knowing about staff retention and ways by which companies can
increase staff retention rate.
Sampling: It is the step that is being followed only when researcher collects primary
data. It can be said that sampling is a procedure that is being selected by researcher in order to
select sample or target people for research study. It works as a source of primary data. As it is
stated that researcher has conducted semi-structured interview so, for conducting interview,
researcher requires participants. This step makes researchers able in selecting participants
accordingly. Random and non-random are 2 main types of sampling process. Random is a type
of sampling process in which participants are being selected randomly and when researcher set
selection criteria then this process of sampling is known as non-random.
Data collection administration
Data analysis approach: For this study, researcher has used content analysis approach. It
can help researcher in identifying patterns in recorded communication.
Data collection administration: Primary and secondary are 2 data collection types in
which primary data collection is associated with first hand data. As with the name itself, it can be
said that it refers that information that are being gathered for the first time by researcher. Some
sources from which, primary data can be collected include: questionnaire, survey, structured and
semi-structured data. In regard to secondary data collection, it can be said that it refers the type
3

of data that are easily accessible and can be collected by anyone (Levis and et.al., 2018). Some
sources of collecting second hand data include: books and journals, articles and others. For this
study, both primary and secondary data has been collected by conducting literature and semi-
structured interview.
Ethical consideration: Ethics also plays a vital role in successful research study as it makes
researchers able in improving their image. When researcher collects data and performs all
research related activities in a ethical manner then he is more likely to make study successful and
complete in a timely manner. Ethics make researchers able in understanding difference between
the rights and wrong. Some ethical considerations for this study include:
To select participants with random sampling method in order to promote diversity.
To give equal and fair opportunities to all participants for making them feel valued.
To collect secondary data from reliable and authentic sources that is no longer than 5
years.
Research approach: Inductive and deductive are 2 main research approaches that refers
procedures consist of steps in which data can be collected and analysed. In inductive research
approach, scholars focus on generating a brand new theory that is relevant with research topic. In
deductive approach, focus of researcher is on development of an existing theory and
hypothetically, data are being collected. For this study, inductive research approach has been
selected because of its relevancy with qualitative research.
Research design: Exploratory, experimental, positivism are some research designs that
are being used for gathering detailed information related to research topic. Exploratory is the
main design that has been selected for this study. The reason behind selection of this design is to
know all problems of research that is not clearly defined and making study successful by
identifying such problems (Chouinard and et.al., 2019).
