Introduction
By consumption of electricity, in giant commercial structures (hospitals, commercial
complexes, five star hotels, schools, universities, IT and software companies), are having in
huge amount. The report is for explaining commercial consumers of electricity, De Montfort
University also consume the commercial power. Campus of university is having large area,
who is having big classroom, sports auditorium, library, auditorium, seminar hall, garden and
sports ground. So we require a big load of electricity, because of this we require to use of
commercial electricity. I am making this report to explain the use of electrical power, new
innovations of energy conservation and who is conducted by De Montfort University. I will
describe success of De Montfort University in conservation of electrical energy.

1. Problem related with conservation of energy
Developed countries are having the consumption of electricity is more than other developing
countries. That is the reason, we face the massive challenges as, future load, reason that
impacts on investment, type and availability of fuel for generating plants, in the isolated
region. The demand of electricity is developing daily, but resource is in limited quantity by
consumption of fossil fuel plants are generating power. Reason of developing demand of
electricity is lots of (automation in industries and factories, high class life style and many
more).
2. Methods of saving electrical power
The process of conservation of electricity should be done carefully. Main point of
planning must be on quality of systematic arrangements. We are having various ways of
conservation of energy but need to work on that and become passionate for our nature. By
doing these points we save electrical power.
We should check rating of equipment before used.
We use occupancy censor.
We do coordinating efforts.
We encourage our students to turn off lights when not in use.
We use CFL and LED for lighting.
We conduct energy awareness program at university and across the country.
We do harvesting daylight.
We calculate usage of every hour.
We do adjust ventilation for sunlight.
3. Summary
In giants commercial structures, planning of conservation of energy should be essential. The
resource, that are being used in generating power, we have them in limited quantity. One day
stock of them will be exhausted, so we require to conservation of energy for upcoming
generation. Need of electricity is developing daily and across the world is having problem
with the conservation of electricity. We are looking for ways of making electricity from bio
waste and also looking for ways of saving the treasure of fossil fuel from get wasting. Our De
Montfort University has innovated various ways of saving power and give ideas to world for
this reason. This is duty of everyone for saving our nature.
4. The De Montfort University
The old Leicester polytechnic has become today’s De Montfort University on the date June,
26 in 1992. This name is selected on the name of Simon De Montfort, who established the
first parliament in 1265.
The University is having multiple structure of many departments (library, sports auditorium,
lecture hall, seminar hall, garden area, hostels. DMU has its electricity staff, who is having

the duty to manage demanding of electricity every time to. University has installed a power
plant for generating of power and also participating in making of CO2 free country.
5. Targets of university- The strategy has sets in our mind to challenge conventional
thinking and have to find new data to transform to society for growth. The DMU has
developed staff and students in University, this is clear and assured statement of our
aim for research and get them. The university has played a big role in the United
Kingdom through development of new technologies and a skilled workforce
management. It is a well placed to lead internationally regarding this, and researched
in cyber security, transportation, electricity, water, modern manufacturing and
creative technologies. Strategy will ensure that we have to keep a clear goal as
respond to challenges and challenges yet will have to come.
6. Projects of energy conservation- University has a diplomatic aim for reducing
emission of CO2 to 43% till 2020, achieving this goal we require to make some
reductions in the electricity amount which is used in operating to buildings and
infrastructure of communication technique. It must be recognised in reducing of
electrical energy, it must be done more efficiently. For reducing emission of carbon
dioxide we require to meet target. In past some years DMU has installed various
equipments, that gives us equal performance in the less use of power. In making of
process more reliable system we are using automatic meter reading system who stores
data from 300 electricity metres.
1. Renewable energy- DMU has promised for bring down carbon emission from using
of renewable energy to 43% till 2020. For achieving this target, admin of DMU is
using a wide range of renewable energy sources that is helping in getting of this aim.
This report gives a thesis explanation of renewable energy sources that is operated at
DMU.
2. Biomass boiler- At John whitehead building, the heat is mostly supplied from
biomass boiler. The boiler is consisted with good quality wood pellets derived from
sawmill waste wood. This gives us a low carbon emissions in compare of
consumption of fossil fuels.
3. Ground source heat pump- At Hugh Aston building, hot water is supplied by 4
ground source heat pump. We are having a network of 60 bore holes and everyone is
having 100 meters deep underneath the Hugh Aston Courtyard. The temperature at
the ground is relatively low from past year and during the winter warmer than ambient
air temperature and during the summer it is cooler. By using the reverse cycle heat
pump temperature can be exploited.
4. Air source heat pump- New leisure centre has requirement of lots of hot water
throughout the year for the showers and for maintaining the temperature of swimming
pool comfortable. So we have installed a air source heat pump for meeting the
demand of this and this process also reduce the carbon emission.
5. Solar thermal panel- At Hugh Aston Building we require electricity for making the
water hot, we have installed the two roof-mounted solar panels. These are the
evacuated tube type solar panels whose efficiency is much higher than flat solar
panels. They have also designed for tracking the sun light as much as maximum for
5 | P a g e

absorbing solar energy. As the temperature of water is reach at its prefix value the
solar panels change its direction from sun for avoiding over heating of water.
6. Solar photovoltaic panel- After completion of summer of 2013, management has
placed four PV panels on our building. At Hugh Aston Phase 1 having 20.64 kWp
,who generate 16,512 kWh per year, at Hugh Aston Phase 2 having 28.00 kWp ,who
generate 22,400 kWh per year, at Edith Murphy having 22.56 kWp ,who generate
18.048 kWh per year and at Gateway House having 48.96 kWp ,who generate
39,168kWh per year. The target of generating is 96,128 kWh per year of these panels.
In average we are generating electricity who can fulfil the demand of 29 homes. By
installing of these panels we have other merit of insulation of roofs.
7. Rainwater harvesting system- our country is having a problem of low rainfall since
past years, we believe it is responsible to use of our water resources as efficiently as
possible. For this system we need energy for softening and pimping process of water,
if we can reduce the use of water so it is having lots of advantages. At a underwater
tank in Hugh Aston Building we stores the rainwater and from where it is pumped to
all of building in the campus for flushing the toilets. This system reduce the use of
fresh water and reduce the need of electricity.8.
8. Analysis-The analysis is difference between energy consumption of summer. That is
till 16 hours but consumption of winter till 8 hours. Observation will explain between
both seasons and energy conservation in both seasons. I will describe year by year
growth of DMU and the emission of carbon and use of water by this graph.
6 | P a g e
Document Page
As observe in first graph energy use of DMU and another universities. DMU has used of
electricity in a fix amount from 2010 while other university has is increased there demand
day by day. Observing second and third graph, DMU emits the less emission of carbon and
use of water, less when comparing with other university.

7. Observation of summer and winter data- The given data of Hugh Aston Building is
of summer season from march, 15, 2016. As Graph is showing data-
Observation of summer 2016 (from 1st march to 15th march)-
The use of electricity is shown day by day in the sheet that is use from 1st march 3712 units
and the prediction was 430 units, difference is 3281units. On second of march, 2016, degree
day is 204.3 so consumption of power is less. We can observe in sheet when temperature is
more, the use of power is more because people uses their air condition and duct system for
giant commercial structure. The duct system consume in a big amount of electricity. If the
temperature is low, then use of power is also low. So we can say that it is depend on
temperature.
Analysis of Winter days 2016 (October 01- October 15)-
8 | P a g e
Document Page
The use of power in winter is shown in above sheet that is from October, 01, 2016 to
October, 15, 2016. The data is collected by collecting software. While observing the given
data, when the weather is cool, use of power is less. On 1st October, use of power is 2224
units and prediction was 488.31 units and difference is 1735.69 units. This is the very much,
so we have to need of conserving the electricity because power plants generate power in a
limited amount. The collected data helps us to fulfilling the demand of power, if difference
would be more so it is hard to fulfil the supply demand.
Task-9 Merits of energy analysis technique
The main advantage of energy analysis technique is used in the growth of designing of
commercial structure, still it is at most done by normal static estimates. Accurate dynamic
simulink software have been made already for decade but these electrical tools are not in use
in a broad way by practitioners in designing of giant structure. The use of this technique, we
can analyze the growth of building designing and the consumption of electricity can be
planned before going under construct. We can calculate the estimated cost and its impact of
environment. This technique is helpful for meet the estimated cost and need of requirement of
practical part.
Task-10 logical argument of this report
I have described the energy analysis technique, I would like to describe this technique on the
logical argument.
1. On the base of global warming- By the consumption of fossil fuel in huge amount,
earth’s atmosphere is overloaded CO2 and another green house gases. These gases
behave like a fat layer and trap of heat. It has the huge impact on our environment that
we are facing from past years like more frequent stronger storms , draughts,
increasing of sea level, floods, depletion of ozone layer and extinction of glaciers
from increasing the atmosphere’s temperature. In USA 29% of total carbon emission
is come from electricity sector. So this technique is helping whole world in decreasing
of carbon emission. The renewable energy source’s carbon emission is very less
compare than this. From the installation, manufacturing, operation, decommissioning
of renewable energy plants, carbon emission are minimum.
2. On the base of health- Air and water pollution done by coal and plant of natural have
a harmful impact on our health. Because of it we can have breathing problems, nerves
damage, cancer, heart attacks, and can have various major diesease. According to a
Harvard university report estimated cost of life and health of public effects by coal is
$74.6 billion every year. It will be equal to generation of per watt is 4.36 cents.
3. On the base availability- The renewable energy is available in a very huge quantity
like sun, hydro energy, geothermal energy and wind energy. So they are
inexhaustible energy sources.
9 | P a g e
Document Page
4. On the base of jobs and economic growth- The renewable energy plants are more
labour intensive because they are typically mechanized and capital intensive. In the
solar panel we need men power to install them and for wind farm we need technicians
for maintenance. So it means that more jobs are created for each unit of electricity
generation of renewable energy. In the year 2016 wind energy plants has employed
over full time employees more than 1,00,000 in USA.
5. On the base of cost- The renewable energy is being provided in a affordable cost
across the whole world and it can help in stabilizing energy price in future. Because
after installation of these plant we are having a low maintenance cost and equipment
of these plants having a long life
6. On the base of reliability- Hurricanes damaged the plants of fossil fuel generation
and distribution system of electricity. Millions of people affected by this problem.
Renewable energy has been minimum affected in the northeast weather. It does not
generate the waste like fly ash, won’t affect on air and water. So it is more reliable.

I have observed in this report about De Montfort University and uses the electricity. In the
making of university modern, use of power has increased. So we fulfil this requirement by
renewable energy sources. It is required to controlling consumption of power and as much as
may be possible, to do minimum use of large electrical and electronics machines and we need
to do work on a little planning for conserving energy. It is moral duty of us for save the our
nature. DMU is managing the lots of projects for saving of power and introducing the
innovative ideas for saving power. Many university and industries is getting ideas for saving
energy and bring down carbon emission low.
