INTRODUCTION
English has become the se4cond foreign language. It is very much important for an
individual to develop the proficiency in English as this will assist them in eliminating the
communication barriers. English in India is a foreign language in multilingual country. It is the
language which has become symbol of people aspiration for quality in Education .The visible
effect of the presence of English language is that it is the language which is demanded by
everybody at the primary stage of schooling. There has been great debate on the level of
introduction of English language at primary level in India. The other topic of the debate is
related to the way students studying at primary level school in India can improve their English
speaking abilities. There has been debate on such topic Indian students at primary level in India
consider English language to be difficult. Therefore, there is great requirement for
communicative English teaching. Main objective of communicative teaching is to assist
students in primary level to develop the competency of speaking English.
The main aim of the research will be to identify the best ways through which students
studying at primary level in India can enhance their English speaking abilities.
MAIN BODY
Literature review
According to the research conducted by Adaba, 2017, an appropriate use of language by
teacher is very much essential in order to help Indian students in developing the proficiency to
speaking language. The other methods which can be utilized by primary level teacher for
supporting Indian children in enhancing their ability to speak English language are shared
reading of big books, use of reading cards, story reading rewriting activities etc. However, it
has been argued by other authors that improvement in specific language skills needs
comprehensive output as well as comprehensible input. As per the opinion of Ramadeep,2019,
the grammar construction by an individual student at primary level is considered to be as
fundamentally implicit. However, it has been argued by other authors that the phonic approach
can be utilized by primary teachers for teaching English language to the students. According to

the opinion of (), modified phonic approach which includes teaching through rhyming is one of
the best way to support primary level student in improving their English speaking ability.
However, it has been argued by other authors that primary teachers in Indian schools are
required to help student in development of the listening, speaking, writing and reading skills as it
will provide students an ease in learning English language. In context of India, training
provided to students are generally theoretical as well as bookish and English language is
thought from the exam point of view . As per the perception of other authors, the teachers can
conduct the different activities in order to assist children in enhancing their listening skills
which is very important in order to increase ability to speak English. However , it has been
argued by other authors that grammar should be taught in native language and other abilities
such as reading , writing, listening and speaking should be taught in English. The authors has
also stated that teaching the grammar in native language is considered to be as one of an
effective method of teaching as well as helping Indian students in primary language to improve
proficiency. According to the opinion of Reachlvy,2017, Reading as well as analyzing the
authentic text is one of the best way to help students in enhancing the ability to speak English.
The researcher has selected the topic identifying the way students English speaking
ability can be improved at primary level in India as investigator has found that many Indian
students at primary level are facing the issue in learning the English language. In addition to this,
many of the Indian students at primary level has shown their keen interest in activities which
are executed for supporting them in enhancing English speaking ability.
