MOUNTAINS TOURISM IS GREAT SOURCE OF INCOME FRO PEOPLE LIVING
THE EVEREST REGION. ADVANTAGES OF TOURISM ON ECONOMY IS FOR
VARIOUS OF REASONS.
TOURISM ACTIVITY ALSO INCLUDES ECONOMIC COST INCURRED BY THE
BUSINESS OF TOURIST . IT ALSO CONSTITUTES TO THE SALE PROFITS, JOBS
TAX AND INCOME. TO THE TOURISM CREATES JOBS AND EMPLOYMENT .
IT GIVE DIRECT EMPLOYMENT ALSO IN THE ARE OF EVEREST REGION BUT
IT HAS SOME NEGATIVE IMPACT ON ECONOMY ALSO. DESPITE THE
REVENUE GENERATED BY THE TOURISM IT HAS LEADING PRESSURE ON
ECONOMY HERE ARE SOME:
COST OF TOURISM USUALLY RELY ON AUTHORITY OF THE AREA WHICH
COMES FROM THE TAXATION.

Background of chosen scenario
• Global tourism in Mount Everest has reached an unexceptional level of demand.
In recent years over One billion tourist has came to Mount Everest for trekking
according to UNWTO .
• While over 50 % of these tourist entrants were form Europe. Tourism is one of
the fastest growing industry in the world.
• Given these statistics the question arise is that how sustainable is tourism in the
area. A primary key to identify the sustainability is the impact of it on the
economical, social and environmental factors. Issue of spiraling carbon emission
is arising due to tourism.

Overall Argument
The Major aim of this project is to evaluate social, environmental
and economical aspects of tourism on mount Everest and to find
ways to reduce the negative impacts.

Definition of sutainabilty and issues
• Sustainable tourism is one that builds a suitable balance between the
environmental, economic and socio- cultural characteristics of tourism
development, plays an important role in preserving the bio diversity of the
Mount Everest..
• In simple words tourism which takes full concern of its future environmental
and social impacts, is called sustainable tourism.
• There are diverse issue which are affecting the environment and economy due
to tourism activities in that geographical area.

• Increased amount of traveler and tourist majorly impacts the climate of the
particular tourist destination. Due to frequent visits of travelers carbon gas
emissions is increasing day by day.
• The development of international travel and enhanced air traffic is causing air
pollution. Energy consumption is also expanding which is contributing to the
climate change. Tourism contributes to the 55 of global gas emissions. Below are
the listed impacts on environment of Mount Evrest:
• Activities of tourist creates noise pollution which degrades the surrounding of the
particular area of Mount Everest

• It has adverse effects on land clearance, construction and over consumption on
coral reefs, coastal wetlands, rain forests, mountain areas, arid ecosystems etc.
• Tourists uses local resources like energy, raw materials of the location, food etc.
sometime these resources are already limited in that location, so greater use of
them by travelers increases pressure on resources.
• Tourist industry is seasonal in nature so number of tourist at Mount Everest
increases ten times as in normal seasons so this makes pressure on the resources
of the area.
• The main problem with Everest trekkers is that they regularly encounters rubbish
at the place. This causes major degradation of the resources of place.

Impact on Ecological enviornment
• Major tourist activities in Mount Everest affects the ecological environment of the
place also. Trekking and catering needs of the tourists turn into enhancement of
the rubbish.
• Due to global warming the glaciers of the place also gets degrade. Global
warming also causes water pollution generated by adulteration of the fresh water
with human and animals waste .

Impact On Social enviornment
• Tourism activities in Mount Everest has undergone wide social and economical
change. Here are some major impact tourism on social environment of Mount
Everest:
• Localities of the area and their lifestyle gets affected by the activities of tourism.
• Sometimes local are people of the place tries to copy the lifestyle of tourist which
results in loss of customs and traditions of the particular area.
• Crime rate increases due to tourism activities in Everest area which result in
degradation of moral values.
• Tourist behaves in anti social manner which causes outrageous behavior of the
localities.

Impact on economy
• Mountains tourism is great source of income fro people living the Everest region.
Advantages of tourism on economy is for various of reasons.
• Tourism activity also includes economic cost incurred by the business of tourist .
It also constitutes to the sale profits, jobs tax and income. to the Tourism creates
jobs and employment .
• It give direct employment also in the are of Everest region but it has some
negative impact on economy also. Despite the revenue generated by the tourism
it has leading pressure on economy Here are some:
• Cost of tourism usually rely on authority of the area which comes from the
taxation.

and travel. Tourism poses menaces to the resources of the area
such as water supply, visiting sites because of overuse. Tourism
also affects the social surrounding of the Everest region also .
