Abstract
The intention of the sustainable design is to remove the environmental impacts through
the sensitive environment. It needs the renewable resources and connect people with the natural
environment. In this research paper, sustainable development plan is given on how the buildings
can be designed to reduce the rate of consumed energy, water efficiency in terms of water reuse
and collection. Also energy efficiency is explained on how a building can minimize the energy
by the use of renewables sources of energy like solar, wind, and geothermal. Buildings of low
carbon emissions are being promoted since they release very little or no carbon to the
atmosphere hence promoting green economy by being environmental friendly.

INTRODUCTION
The sustainable development plan details the initiatives of the designs adopted to reduce
the impacts of environment. Sustainable architecture attempt to reduce the impact of
environment during the process of construction, production of the buildings components, and
lifecycle of the building. This designs emphasizes on the efficiency of the cooling and the
heating systems, alternative energy sources such as the hot water solar, good siting of the
building, recycled and reused materials, rainwater harvesting and green roofs that filter and
control the runoff of the storm water.
Objectives
To minimize the carbon emissions which implies that the embodied carbon of material
construction and the emission of carbon from the construction and wastes are the offset
by the use of renewable energy
To minimize the construction materials which represents the maximum use of the
recycled materials
To minimize the usage of water daily
To minimize the generation of wastes represented by the effective measures of wastes

Low carbon building
Buildings of low carbon are constructed to produce little or no carbon at all throughout
their lifetime. The greenhouse gases are released to the atmosphere during the early building
stages like building construction, building operation and deconstruction. The greenhouse gas
emissions related with the building construction are mainly coming from the manufacturing
materials, transport of the materials, and transport and treatment of the wastes demolished. The
strategies adopted low carbon buildings to reduce the greenhouse gases emission during the
construction are; electricity consumption, fossil fuel consumption, treatment of the waste water
and solid at on site, and industrial processes housed in the building (Authority, 2015)
Selection of the construction materials is very important to reduce the consumption of the energy
of the house by reducing the solar heat loss and gain, therefore decreasing the loads of air
conditioning. Selecting the constituents with low energy will reduce the consumed energy
through the manufacturing, processing, and transporting of the materials. For example the
aluminum has high energy because of the power consumed during the mining of the raw material
(Beriatos, 2014).
innovating the construction process; the modern process of construction should be used to ensure
that the building don’t emit dangerous gases, uses less energy, use water efficiently, minimize
the wastes and recycle. The construction process should be effective to lengthen the buildings
lifetime sustainably (Brebbia, 2017).
The renewable source of energy include the solar, low impact hydro, wind, wave and tidal,
biofuels and geothermal. Wind energy is the fastest growing source of the energy and is captured
through the wind turbine. Solar power is harnessed through the photovoltaics, solar hot water

and concentrating solar. The advancement in the modification of the photovoltaic cells provide
more methods of producing the solar power. The availability of the renewable sources of energy
must be analyzed in the planning stage as the part of the energy plan. The plan must justify the
demand of the energy and asses the benefits of local, global and regional environment
(Kawakami, 2013).
Low resource requirement design in terms of;
Recycling and the reuse of the products reduced the impacts on the environment more so the
creation of wastes and use of resources. The benefits of the reuse of the building resources and
the constituents in the chains of manufacturing are good and is the alternative for the reduction
for the materials for the construction and the waste from demolition when demolishing and
renovating which enables the recovery of the of the parts of the building such as the windows,
bricks, and tiles where the parts can be transformed back to the raw materials for the processing
(OECD, 2013).
Water reuse and collection are the main aim in the sustainable building. The building should
reduce their dependency on the water used, collected, reused and purified. The protection and
water conservation in the building maybe be met by constructing the dual plumbing that recycles
the water in the toilets for flushing and using it for other activities. Waste water may be
decreased by using the fixtures of water conservation like low flow of shower heads showers and
low flush toilets. The bidets can assist in the elimination of the tissue paper lowering the traffic
of sewer and enhancing the possibilities of the re using water on the site. Point of use of water
heating and treatment increases the energy efficiency and quality of water and reduce the
circulation off water (Quaddus, 2013).

Design for the waste minimization; the industry of construction is major generator of the
wastes which impact problems to environment. Wastes takes the unwanted forms of materials
produced from the demolition and construction process. Decrease of wastes in the building of
houses can save the amount of nonrenewable resources. Minimization of wastes should be
addressed as the project part of sustainability throughout the process of designing by the
application of recovering and reducing the construction wastes, recycling and reuse and the
storage and disposal of the construction wastes (Silberstein, 2017).
Conclusion
Sustainable technologies for the designing the building uses less energy, less resources and don’t
deplete the natural resources without caring for the future generation. They don’t pollute the
environment directly or indirectly and their components can be reused and recycled. .
