INTRODUCTION
Promotion of equality and diversity within an organisational entity can be effectively
undertaken if it gets accompanied with comprehensive practice. This approach duly ensure that
an individual get treated in without any discrimination (Gibson, 2015). In simple terms, with the
help of diversity individual’s differences can be effectively welcome. This is one of the most
important aspect with the help of which equal opportunity to all can be offered without
discriminated them on any basis. Further this has been identified that by promoting equality
equal opportunity for all can be ensured. With the help of this, accomplishment of goals as well
as objectives can be done in a best effective manner.
TASK 1
A: Identify and explain the 9 categories with regards to equality
Quality and diversity basically define as a term that is mainly used in provinces of United
Kingdom in order to justify and define human rights, equality and diversity as to determine
values to society. Equality and diversity basically aim towards promoting equality by providing
equal opportunity to individuals as to aid them to work in a workplace without being kept
discriminated. By being a trainee teacher it is essential for me to have formative knowledge of all
these categories. There are mainly 9 categories that are basically related to equality that are

mainly getting observed in an organisational workplace structure. All the categories are further
being define below:
Age:
Age is define as how old a person is, since from their birth date. This has been duly
identified that individuals get discriminated according to their age (Alexiadou and Essex, 2016).
This has been evaluated that within an organisation women’s are mostly affected victims those
who get discriminated on their age number. Largely, within business organisation individuals are
not get treated as per their skills and talent
Gender:
Gender is being defined one of the most prominent factor on which individuals get
discriminated. This has been identified that in most of the workplace people face issue related to
their femininity and masculinity( Richards and Armstrong, 2016). In addition to this, this has
been determined that at most of the workplace structure individuals get business opportunity as
per according to their gender. For instance at the time of selecting sales executive sales manager
mainly provide first preference to male candidates.
Disability:
Disability is defined as a situation in which person is mentally or physically affected with
some form of problem that affect them to perform work as compare to other individuals.
Disability creates obstacles in front of them that further decrease their level of performance.
Religion:
Religion is belief of an individual towards God. This has been identified that, there are
numerous relations that are being followed by individual in this whole world. For example,
Muslim, Christianity, Hindu, Jewis etc.
Marriage:
Marriage is a legal relationship in which two person take vows to spend all of their life
with each other as a husband and wife.
Pregnancy and maternity:
Pregnancy is a situation in which a women expecting for a baby. While maternity is defined as a
time period in which woman is in her last month and are expecting to give birth. This is mainly a
situation in which women at workplace get consider less efficient as compared to other workers
and get discriminated.

Gender reassignment:
It is defined as a procedure in which one gender convert or change them into other
gender.
Civil partnership:
This is a partnership or Union between two individual which is also have quite similarity
like marriage.
B: Define diversity
Diversity involves different types of thing with the help of an individual get promote towards
human rights as well as freedom (Peer and Reid, 2016). While promoting diversity in workplace
organization can effectively able to provide value to the individuals those who belong from
different background, nationality, skills, experience. I perform my work as trainee teacher
educational organisation which is a diverse place. Thus, it is essential for me to understand this
aspect. It has been identified that diversity effectively promotes higher productivity in an
organisational workplace structure. It also allow organisation to provide significant opportunities
to individuals who have wide area of knowledge and skills. Diversity at workplace and learning
institution can be duly seen in number ways, in classrooms it involve different students those
who belongs from different religion and culture. In context with organisational Culture by
implementing diversity organisation can make different caste, skills, experience and personality
of employees to perform their work together. It will not only increase their productivity level
efficiency but also make rise in their performance level. A employee see themselves not get
discriminated on any basis.
C: Why is important to promote equality and diversity?
Equality and diversity is most important aspect that allows individuals to learn in a less time
period. By conducting by work as a trainee teacher it is essential for me to promote equality as
well diversity in an educational organisation. There are different types of benefits that are
associated with equality and diversity. Some of the certain defined below:
Opportunities for progress:
The most important benefit of equality and Diversity is that it effectively promotes business
organisation to have opportunity for more progress (Syed and Ozbilgin, 2015). It has been
identified that diversity allows individuals to communicate with different individuals and
accomplish their business goals in a well defined and positive manner.
