TASK 1
A: Identify and explain the 9 categories with regards to equality and diversity
Equality means the state of being equal as it is one of the ideal democratic society as well
as so individuals are fighting for gaining different type of equality such as racial, gender and
many more (Machin and et. al., 2020). On the other hand, diversity means understanding that
every individual is unique as well as recognizing individual differences.
Age – This Act protect people of all age as different treatment because of age is not
unlawful or indirect discrimination if individual can justify it (Palacios, 2016).
Education is right of every individual person so it is important for educational
institution to select candidates without creating any age discrimination.
Gender – Both men and women has to be treated equally no discrimination has to be
done in them. Unequally on the basis of equality act. Thus, both men and women have
right to be educate so it is essential for educational institution to ensure that
educational institution should have to educate student without creating and gender
discrimination.
Disability – There are several disable people who should not be discriminate in
educational institution as they also have right to get educated (Standish, 2019).
Gender reassignment – The Act protect transsexual people, they are the one who
proposes to start or complete procedure of changing their gender.
Pregnancy and maternity – It protect the women who discriminated on the ground of
maternity and pregnancy as well as any statutory leave which she entitled during
entire period.
Race – For the purpose of the Act “race” involves nationality, colour as well as
national or ethnic origins (Brewis, 2019).
Religion - In the Equality Act, religion includes any religion. It also includes no
religion, in other words employees or jobseekers are protected if they do not follow a
certain religion or have no religion at all.
Sexual orientation – Equality Act protect bisexual, lesbian, heterosexual as well as
gay.
Marriage and Civil partnership – The Act protects staff who are married as well as in
civil partnership in relation of discrimination. But single people are not protected in
this.

Diversity means understanding that every individual is unique as well as recognizing
individual differences (Bowl, 2018). There are several things which has to be consider in
diversity are as follows :-
Opportunity in employment and progression – Every educational institution such

and diversity which a company may gain, from which some are mentioned below:-

important (Özbilgin and Slutskaya, 2017).
Celebrate diversity – For a educational institution it is also essential that they must
celebrate each and every festival which is of all religion because through that they
able to promote equality and diversity at the workplace successfully and effectively.
Positive attitude to individual – For promoting equality and diversity a company
must motivate positive attitude among the staffs or individual because they will feel
encouraged which enhance their productivity.
Empowering individuals – It is also essential for firm to empower employees and
individual so that they can promote equality and diversity effectively (Thompson,
2016). This is so because through it they able to empower individual.
These are main ways through which a company as well as society can promote
equality and diversity as well as it will also help them in motivating and enhancing their
performance.

There are several factors which affect learning such as development of language,
educational background and social or cultural barriers. Explanation of these are as follows :-
Development of language - When individual is from different nation then they have
distinct language which may sometimes work as barriers while learning (Loredo and
Merritt, 2019). Because it will create difficulties as differences in language may result
in creating issues as particular person nit able to learn things in better manner.
Educational background – For learning something in better manner it is important
for individual to have minimum education which required for learning. Because
