CHAPTER 2
Literature Review
A literature review is a kind of a review article. It is a scholarly based paper that is presents
the present knowledge considering substantive result as well as methodological and theoretical
based contributions to a specific topic. There are three objectives which are explained below as;
To investigate reasons of discrimination over workplace
As per view point of Yahnke. K., 2021, When we think about discrimination at work
place we imagine issue with different play scale among men women or lack of opportunity for
Asian manager. Although these instant are correct, these are not straight. Discrimination at work
place happens among colleagues, employees and employer, or between an employee and a third
party. Particularly, when the unfair treatment is based on the class or category to which they
belong, rather than on individual merit. If we talk about discrimination based on classes then if
discrimination at work place happen with a member of protected class it is an illegal offence.
The protected category includes gender, age, religion, race, sexual orientation, etc. The
discrimination also occurs during the time of recruitment. The words used in job advertisement
shows discrimination against an individual or groups. For example if company use phase like
“men for constructive work” then its indicating gender discrimination. Sometimes during hiring
employees are given different terms and conditions than other with different employment
contract. Sometimes the hiring manager gets the negative assumption about the ideal candidate
and he or she might be overlooked. The discrimination that happens after recruitment is taken to
be something that takes place between full time employees. For example the training of
particular candidate get denied, promotions, transfers or benefits being overlooked, rather than
being demoted or terminated. This not only happens to permanent employees but also happens to
the interns, casuals, seasonal, and part time employees. The discrimination is divided into
various types some of which are direct discrimination indirect discrimination reverse

discrimination. The direct discrimination is the one that is also called disparate treatment, it
takes place when some treats or encourage others to treat the other particular person adversely
depending upon their protected category. This type of discrimination happens because of shallow
and narrow mind sets about the ones in protected classes.
This stereotype mind set leads to false assumptions about the ability of the particular
person from the protected group. This discrimination is intentional and obvious. The indirect
discrimination is called the disparate impact. In this case when a condition, policy is applied for
the disadvantage and side effect on a protected class. Taking this case as example in which hiring
criteria is implemented so that women or minority group members get negative and disparate
impact. Third type of discrimination is a completely debated issue nevertheless one must go
through this topic. The discrimination against women or minority members is forbidden, Title
VII is for them and it also defense those in group that is considered as free from discrimination
like men and Caucasians. The systems that is made to protract or correct past false treatment of
historically disadvantaged classes they might end up doing discrimination against the groups or
classes that had advantage in past. There are various laws by state and federal to cover these
discrimination and to make sure these are not taken lightly. If we say this in simple terms
discrimination at work place is illegal.
To examine the impact of workplace discrimination on employee satisfaction and performance
in the workplace of Marks and Spencer.
As per view point of Front. Psychol, 2021 - More than the one-third of UK’s youth report
that they has the experienced discrimination, harassment, bullying and other kind of violence due
to the race, appearance, gender and age at the some stage in working career. Investigate shows
experiencing company discrimination as well as the stress out coming from the discrimination at
workplace is related to the multitude of unfavourable organizational or staff outcomes, that are
lowered satisfaction in job, reduced the company commitment, minimize job performance rate,
decreased supporting behaviours or enhanced revenue intentions. Thus, in further the
understanding effect of discrimination at company experiences could has assessable
consequences for the industry above or beyond the desire for a fairness as well equality. In the
context to Marks and Spencer, some times there is workplace discrimination happen in providing
the opportunity. Company enable to offer equal opportunity due to various reasons such as some
time employee’s performance rate is very low and some time the discrimination happen among

staff members. Workplace discrimination have negative impact on satisfaction of employees and
business performance rate. Due to discrimination every staff member cannot get the equal rights
and job opportunity then they put fewer efforts in every business task. Due to this reason
company get less achievements and lower rate of performance. For better growth of company
employee’s satisfaction is most important factor. Company have
To explore the strategies to minimize practices of workplace discrimination at Marks and
Spencer
As per view point of Leah Boyd, 2020. – There are a some factors that suggest when people
working with business managers to set up the plan or actions for preventing the workplace
discrimination:
Develop a on paper policy that is defines the rules or process. Creating the clearly-written
rules and policy is a first stage toward the preventing workplace discrimination This is
just individual of reasons that it is essential to create an workforce handbook. Each
handbook should consider the policy on the discrimination which is each staff member
get or signs the acknowledgment of the receipt. Company’s policy should coat a huge
range of the potential discriminatory based acts as well consider a protocol which is
outlines that how workplace discrimination complaints submitted, managed or resolved.
Establish consistent procedures for the resolving discrimination problems- Resolving
problems quickly or fairly is really important—even if company isn’t in the legal
jeopardy, the lingering company discrimination problem can a lead to down the trust or
credibility factor with workforce. Reliability in how company analyse or resolve each
issue shows that business expects each one to treat equally or by the same principles
regarding the discrimination. There is no individual “equal” process for company
discrimination, it’s essential to establish the procedure that suits organization’s
size ,resources and structure
Continually educate workforce on their job role in the preventing workplace
discrimination. For most companies, addressing issue in workforce handbook as well on
boarding procedure isn’t sufficient. Some country’s laws needs employers to the
regularly ways of anti-discrimination based training programs. Whether company
required by the law or industry want to be most practical about the avoiding
