Wembley Limited, a global company specializing in the manufacture of building
materials is facing a crisis, emanating from unreliability of its current IT networks and
systems. The company’s network is old and prone to downtime, while its data centre
has old and obsolete servers. The most tormenting problem is its current legacy
software systems that are highly unreliable, unstable and lacks data flow from one
department to another.
To address this problem, this project intends to design, develop, install and
commission a new ERP system for the company. The proposed system will greatly
benefit the company as it will be used in departments of the organization, from
acquisition of raw materials, manufacturing, management of inventory of goods
produced and sales of goods. An ERP system will provide a single source of truth for
the organization and replace the existing standalone legacy systems being used by
each department at the organization. The project will also deploy new servers to
replace the old servers at the data centre; with the new servers hosting the proposed
system.
1.1 Project Objectives
This project’s main objective is to design, develop and implement an ERP system for
the manufacturing company. The proposed system will be used at all facets of the
organization, from acquisition of raw materials, manufacturing, management of
inventory of goods produced and sales of goods. The objective therefore encompasses
the design of the system, programming the application, testing, end user training and
deployment of the system.
The overall goal of the project is to develop and implement an ERP system at the
company. The specific objectives are;
To design and develop an ERP system for the company
Install new servers at the company’s internal data centre
To deploy the developed ERP on the servers
Train users on how to uses the ERP system
1.2 Project Scope
In any project, scope definition and management is vital in ensuring timely delivery of
the project. Kerzner (2013), defines scope as “work required to produce the project’s
deliverables”. It defines a project’s boundaries, and outlines the specific expectations
that have to be met by the project, as well as the tasks to be done.
To design and develop an ERP system for the company
