“THE GIRLS MOST LIKELY”

ESSAY 2
INTRODUCTION
The girl most likely film features two girls (Kristy and Simon) and it
is the first episode of Plumpton high babies’ series. Plumpton High is a
high school located in the western suburbs of Sydney, Australia. As we
may know usually, pregnant girls are not allowed or may drop out of
school due to societal stigmatisation or based on school policy, but in this
school, program for young mothers is available to encourage or keep
them in school. Usually, girl who get pregnant at very young ages suffer a
daunting experience in society and the burden that associated with being
a mother at young age (Branigan&Ramcharan, 2012). Simon was three
months pregnant while Kristy already has a toddler at the commencement
of the documentary. Both girls have their challenges from childhood
perhaps due to poor relationship with their parents (Furstenberg, 2016).
Thus, essay aim to evaluate the film and discuss potential program or
policy that could help address the issue raise in the movie. This essay is
divided three sections. Section one discusses the social, economic and
issues raise in the film. The next section focuses on potential programs or
policies that are available and the last section provide recommendation,
following by a conclusion.
Overview of the film
The documentary commerce featuring two young girls in year 11
Kristle and Simon at Plumpton high. The school offer a program for young
mother to help teenage mothers remain in school. However, the program
is an opportunity, but it depends on the girls to embrace it or lose it.
Simon was 16 and three months pregnant While Kristle was already a
young mother. The film highlights some of the social, economic and other
challenges face by teen pregnancy and young mothers. According to-----
teenage motherhood is associated with being at risk of long term
economic difficulty, early exit from school, difficulties getting a better job
or returning to school. It reduced career options and opportunities and
may force young mother on welfare funds or incomes below the poverty-
line (Furstenberg, 2016). Especially for those girls in the film, they were

from low-income ground and have poor relationship with their parents. For
example, Kristle was homeless due to constant fight with her parent which
saw her move out at very early age and her boyfriend was on low-income
as well. Same story with Simon she and her boyfriend were living in a
caravan and on low-income as well. There are many pressures
surrounding teenage pregnancy in the early years of her age. These
complications include dropping out of the schools because of the strict
rules and regulations in Australia.Looking at their social condition and
standard of living, it is difficult for one to stay focus on school or be a good
parent. The young fathers are not ready to take care of a fully-fledged
family and hence make pregnancy or having a child a difficult situation to
deal with. For example, language use when baby is disturbing them
because they are immature kids and having bad habit of smoking and
causing trouble. Kristle was an example as she was kick out of her
accommodation that school found her due to poor management and
relationship with residents. In the midst of these entire can led to
depression for these young women. They are taken into welfare homes for
help and might have to live a segregated life away from family and
society (Branigan Ramcharan, 2012).
Not just the mother suffers in the case of early pregnancy, but this
could become a visual circle as children born in such conditions may face
similar problems and issues later in life. The out-come could result in, life
in poverty due to improper care kids will not have access to quality food
and health (malnutrition) (Branigan&Ramcharan, 2012).In most case the
victim is left neglected and abuse, creating avenue for kids to perform
poor at school and involve in other bad activities such as alcohol and
drugs etc (Furstenberg, 2016).In the film, the girls broke up with their
boyfriend’s as a result these kids may grow up without a father. This
situation might lead to the child becoming pregnant at an early age and
end up suffering just like theirs parent.
