A Reflective Essay about Effective Communication & Improving Performance, &
how this influenced my Performance, behaviour & experience
This piece of reflective writing utilises Driscoll’s model of reflection (1994). Here I will
discuss my experiences at work/in education (WHICH OF THESE TWO DO YOU
WRITE ABOUT? WORK, OR EDUCATION?) where I demonstrate effective
communication, and the process that enabled me to improve my performance, in the
table below:

1. What? 350 words Description of a situation or event which
enabled you to improve performance because
of effective communication
What is/was the Purpose? After completing my degree, I was recruited by MNC for
the Business Associate role. Role was very challenging
and the one which was dreamed by me at the time of
completing my education and learning.
What happened in the
event/scenario? In the initial stage or can be said that from the day one it
was understood by me that communication will play a
very crucial role in Business Associated role
What did I see/do during the As responsibility of this role were, to maintain good
relationship with the existing client of the company, to
build new client for the company. Also, job asked to assist
the different senior management in the organization with
the different relevant data in regards to the market and
internal position of the business (De Sivatte and et.al.,
2018). As a result it was very important to have a good
and effective communication skill to carry out different
operation or task.

What was my reaction to it? In the initial stage, I was feeling some sort of pressure to
carry out the role in the organization, as It was mine first
job and was having so much of different curiosity in the
mind. Further pressure was enhanced in me due to lack of
communication skill of mine, as I was confident enough
to perform good sort of oral communication in the
organization but not sure of written communication of
mine. As in the PDP which was made by me in university,
written communication was one of the skill which was
desired to be improved

feedback from the colleague about the

basis or outcome of the feedback I used to
implement same changes in the operation of
the business, this has helped me in improving
the written communication of mine.

No, I am confident enough to communicate
with anyone in the organization very
