TOPIC“What is academic plagiarism and why is academic integrity relevant to professionalism in abusiness environment?”INTRODUCTIONAcademic writing can be defined as a clear, concise, structured, focussed way which helpsin improving an individual’s understanding and writing in a proper manner (Eckert, 2018). It isextremely important for an individual to understand importance of academic writing so that theycan under and avoid plagiarism. This essay will lay emphasis on academic plagiarism and whyacademic integrity is important for maintaining professionalism in business environment. Thisessay will discuss plagiarism and ways in which it is related to academic writing, then whyacademic integrity is important in business environment and lastly will help in highlighting waysin which plagiarism can be avoided. MAIN BODYPlagiarism can be defined as copying someone else work or ideas and pretending orpresenting it as one’s own work. It is simply violating copyright laws. It is one of the mostimportant thing that one should be careful of while writing anything because copying someoneelse’s work and pretending it to be one’s own and not acknowledging the source from where itcame from is a serious offence. Is not only an annoying thing for the original writer but it is quitedangerous for the person who copies it because if it is spotted in your writing then the school orcollege has the right to fail that person in exam. It is one of the most serious offence in schools orcolleges and for this they can send the person down from the university (Gray and Biber, 2018).Plagiarism can be identified in three different manners: first when the teachers know the subjectreally well, second when teachers know all the books a student has referred and third when thereis a change in writing style of the essay. Because of this it is clear that it is directly related toacademic writing. There are five main types of plagiarism. First is direct plagiarism in whichsomeone else work is directly copied and only some minor changes are made. Self-plagiarism inwhich students directly submits all parts f their own work without getting their professorspermission. Mosaic plagiarism which is also known as patch writing when other’s work is usedwithout using quotation marks (Atkinson, Nau and Symons, 2016).
