Herzberg's Two factor theory of motivation – This theory was introduce by Frederick
Herzberg in 1959 as well as by this two factors has been proposed. In addition to this, it is also
known as motivator-hygiene theory. According to Herzberg's, there are some job factors which
result in satisfaction of staff as well as other job factors that prevent dissatisfaction. In current
scenario, there are several organization who are using respective theory for making their
customers satisfy in effective manner and also result in enhancing productivity and
accomplishing goals (Herzberg’s Two-Factor Theory of Motivation, 2020). By Herzberg job
factors are classified within two categories which are as follows :-
Hygiene factors, These are the job factors which are important for existence of
motivation within workplace. Hygiene factors will not result in positive satisfaction for long
duration. But if these factors get absence from workplace then it result in dissatisfaction of staff
members (Lamb and Ogle, 2019). There are several hygiene factors which modern organisation
have to consider in their working for making employees satisfy and encourage for conducting
work in effective manner. Such as pay which simple means that salary structure of staff in
organisation has to be appropriate and reasonable. In addition to this, Fringe benefits are also
part of motivation factor as it include other benefits which business firm provide to their staff in
modern edge. It includes health care plans, employees help programmes and benefits for family
members. Along with this, most important motivational factor is job security as modern world is
competitive in which every employee need job security. For instance, if Tesco Plc. Will
implement hygiene factors in their working as they provide job security, fringe benefits and
proper pay scale to their employees then they will able to motive staff in effective manner.
Motivational factors, as per Herzberg factors included in hygiene cannot be consider as
motivators (Amiri and et. al., 2019). Thus, motivational factors yield positive satisfaction for
staff members working within an organisation. Factors included in this result in motivating
employees for superior performance as well as these factors are known as satisfiers. In addition
to this, staff members working in modern organisation such as Tesco plc find these factors
intrinsically rewarding. In addition to this, motivators in organisation symbolized psychological

need which will perceived as an additional benefits. There are several parts which included
within motivational factors such as growth and promotional opportunities which is important in
modern organisation for motivating staff members to perform in well manner (Staempfli and
Lamarche, 2020). Another motivation factor is responsibility which simply means that
employees must hold themselves responsible for in relation of any activity allotted to them.
Thus, they should have to minimize control but retain accountability. Most important factor
which help in employees motivation is recognition as well as employees must praised and
recognized for any accomplishment through manager of company.
Thus, in modern organisation it is important to implement motivational theory so that
things will managed in effective manner. By this theory it has been implies that manager must
stress on guaranteeing adequateness of hygiene factors for avoiding dissatisfaction of staff
members (Chiat and Panatik, 2019). In addition to this, manager of company ensure that work is
stimulating as well as rewarding so that staff get motivated to work in better manner. Although,
with the assistance of Herzberg's Two factor theory of motivation modern era business firm
conduct their activities in such manner that it will result in accomplishing goals and objectives in
better manner.
