ETHICAL DECISION MAKING
The Moral Dimension-
In this given scenario ‘Jobs for you’ employment agency had faced allegations from
employees for wrongful termination of employees. ‘Jobs For You’ however rejected the claims of
the employees and stated in their defense that the employees had been irresponsible and
negligent. ‘Jobs For You’ produced records substantiating their claims that the reason of
termination of employee was fair and that employees had been terminated due to their
negligence and irresponsibility. However it was feared by the agency that the present
employees might accuse the agency of maintaining records of them. The act of maintaining
records might seem discriminatory or rude to the employees. Therefore the management of the
agency told their recruitment manager to make indirect discriminatory notes about the
employees so that same could be used in the court as evidence.
Assessing the parties
In this scenario the interested parties are the management of ‘Jobs For You’ Agency and
Stella, the recruitment manager
The Values involved in the moral dimension
In accordance with the ethical and moral guidelines as contained in the Australian
Computer Society code of ethics the aforementioned moral dilemma could be solved. For the
purpose of solving the moral dilemma the relevant codes to be taken into consideration are:
Honesty- According to ACS code of ethics honesty is to be maintained by every member
of the computer society while conducting their professional duties (Acs.org.au 2018).
Primacy of Public Interest- Every member of the society must place the public interest on
highest priority
Professionalism- Professionalism is to be maintained by every member of the computer
society for upholding integrity of the society as well as the individuals
The code of professional conduct provides the guidelines for performing the duties assigned
to the members of Australian Computer Society (Acs.org.au 2018). This code has to be strictly
followed in every instance. The following codes are of significant relevance to the chosen case
study:
Code 3.c- Professional and personal opinions are to be differentiated
Code 3.e- Not to form judgments or professional based on insufficient and limited
knowledge
Code 1g- Confidentiality and Privacy of information must be maintained
Code 6e: Never indulging or manipulating another member to indulge in any activity
which would breach any of the codes of professional conduct.
Code 1.a: All the members of the computer society must consider the interest of the
parties who might be affected by the work of such member.
Weighing the Burdens and the Benefits
In the given scenario Stella is the recruitment manager, therefore she has an obligation
to comply with the ACS codes of Ethics. However she is an employee of Jobs for You and thus
she has an obligation to uphold the benefit of her employer.
