will acquit themselves and helps in discerning right from wrong based on personal
values in life (Shaw 2016). Ethical principles and values is essential for nurses within
a healthcare setting because it serves as a foundation for any nursing practice while,
assisting nurses in identifying various healthcare dilemmas which enables them to
make informed decisions and discerned judgment rooted on their values while
keeping within the laws that governs them (Voorn et al., 2018 )There are various

ethical questions and dilemmas within a healthcare system that various healthcare
professionals encounter that, if not competently dealt with in time, can compromise
healthcare quality, professionals action or even service user’s autonomy (Conti et al.,
2018).Healthcare ethics entails considerate decision making concerning medical
treatments for the patient, while taking into account a patient’s autonomy regarding
all aspect s of their health(Gillon, 1994).The healthcare system has a high admiration
in relations to issues enclosing the well-being of their patients. The responsibility
over a patient’s welfare initiates an imperative commitment for all healthcare system
to establish ethics committee which aims to inaugurate a written code of ethics that
specifies the policies and procedure regulates appropriate conduct for all employees
(França et al., 2008).Furthermore, bioethical issues need to be be addressed not
only in areas concerning the application of techno-sciences in emergency cases, but
also through pondering the merits of techno-scientific evolution within areasof
persistence cases like situations of blood transfusion among Jehovah
Witnesses(Gillon, 2003).
Blood transfusion is generally given and should be accepted without force by the
beneficially with the meaning that the question should be well addressed to them. If
they reject it, higher the risk but if they accept it, minimal risk they might have.
Though with many benefits to the recipient, acceptance of the matter is an issue and
refusal is a flipside (Néill, 2017). As a healthcare professional, treating a patient with
a certain religious belief. cast paramount ethical issues in the field of healthcare. This
paper will critically discuss and evaluate ethical health care affairs relating to the
refusal of care, such as a blood transfusion. It will cover findings relating to current
practice within nursing, challenges encountered and will also consider future
development proposals. In addition, various legislations, the four ethical principles
and how they apply to healthcare professionals, mental capacity act (2005), and
human rights (1998) will be included. The target audience for this information is
Jehovah’s witnesses as it is essential that they are fully aware of their rights and
treatment options that include non-blood components (Garraud and Tissot 2018).
Lastly, all healthcare professionals are also considered to be target audiences as it is
important that all healthcare professionals have a basic understanding of Jehovah’s

witnesses’ beliefs about blood transfusion in order to be proactive in treatment
offered to them (França et al. 2008).
