ETHICAL DILEMMAS IN HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT
Human Resource professionals are required to treat employees with decency and
distributive justice. Ethics in Human Resource Management requires human resource
professional to maintain obligations of the employer towards employees enabling them to work
efficiently and effectively to achieve the goal of the company (Arora, 2014). Moral philosophies
help HR in making tough decisions and in developing analytical and reasoning skills. Every
single Organization establishes a set of ethical standards to help an individual to make a choice.
HR employees face a moral dilemma concerning personal values and organizational values
regularly, particularly as they balance the interests of other employees with the interests of the
organization (Earsmus, 2018).
HR officials are expected to communicate ethical values and so maintain organizational
values (Ogwoka, 2017). Management of human resources has a significant impact on the success
of the firm. HRM has a strategic role to focus on the administration of employees to achieve the
objectives of a company (Ogwoka, 2017). Human resource policies should align with
organizational strategies to ensure organizational goals are met (Wooten, 2001).
HR professionals are also ethically required to maintain confidentiality. Confidentiality
obligations for HR professionals protect employee information and confidential information
about business decisions and strategy (Wiley 2000). Critical business decisions must be kept
confidential by HR since their superiors have trusted them. They have access to high-level and
vital business decisions and will eventually be responsible for informing the lower-level
employees.
I would advise Mary Alice not to tell Ralph of the coming layoffs since she has an ethical
role to ensure the goals of FMC Inc. are not disclosed and also to maintain confidentiality. Her
