1. Proper and effective communication with the patient has been seen when Rosie and
Julia communicated with the patient Alfie. The team was keeping him informed by providing
explanation of the treatment and communicated with Alfie throughout the scenario.
2. The whole MET team has displayed good teamwork by providing information
about deterioration and the changes in Alfie’s vital signs. The team professionals make verbal
and non-verbal communication.
3. The handover process of Alfie from Julia to the team of MET was sufficient. This
is because she followed appropriate actions of ISBAR.
4. The MET doctor was talking with each other and she constantly spoke to the nurse
team while they were distracted with other tasks.
Q2. Effect on the patient:
Therapeutic relationship can be established in a healthcare set up through proper
communication (Baughan & Smith, 2013). The team members in this scenario have
maintained effective communication with the patient. This may help in the motivation and the
positive mental aspect development of the patient. Furthermore, effective communication can
increase Alfie’s perception regarding quality of care provided. Hence, build up of a
relationship of trust can be seen between the patient and different healthcare professional
(Meuter et al. 2015).
On the other hand, Manias et al. (2015) stated that clinical handover can be defined as
transferring of responsibility and accountability of essential clinical information from one
