Introduction
According to the statistics of the demographical distribution of various minority
groups, The Hispanic/Latino Americans has been the second largest minority groups of the
United States (Daviglus, Pirzada & Talavera, 2014). Thus 52 million people or 16.7% of the
total population has been Hispanic Latino citizens. According to the data available regarding
the health behaviours as well as health status of the Hispanic or/Latino groups, it can be seen
that it has been complex due to variety of factors. The health inclusive of the U.S
Hispanic/Latino group is determined by generational status along with difference in various
nation origin groups. The following paragraphs would highlight the various factors affecting
the health conditions of the Hispanic and Latino people and the reason behind the heath
conditions according to social, political, economic factors (Schneiderman et al., 2014).
Current health status of the Hispanic/Latino group and the influence on race and
ethnicity
The declining condition of their health status has been depicted with the varying
mortality rates of the people. One of the most important factors affecting the health status is
chronic conditions like diabetes mellitus. As compared with other non-Hispanic whites, they
have a higher tendency of suffering from Type 2 diabetes. Hypertension, cardiovascular
diseases along with cancer has been other factors for the prevalence of chronic diseases.
There has been age related proportions among the Hispanics which have reported activity
limitations compared with 12.1 percent for the whites and 15.5 percent for the blacks
according to the calculation from the National Centre for Health Statistics (Blackwell, Lucas
& Clarke, 2014). Race and ethnicity of groups affect the genomic information of people
which is again influence by health related factors. As race involves the categorization of

individuals on the basis of skin colour, there is heretrogenicity among the individuals which
simultaneously affects their heath and overall well-being.
Health disparities among Hispanic/Latino groups due to culture, socioeconomics, socio-
political factors and education
According to the World Health Organisation, health disparities are the differences
which are avoidable, unnecessary and considered as unfair, unjust. There has been an
increase diseases burden among the minority groups due to increasing morbidity as well as
mortality compared with other races. Primary health differences mainly attribute to variations
in social resources, socializations well as formative human experiences found over the life
courses. Moreover, all-cause mortality rates have been lower than the whole population but
have been enhanced over the years due to secular trends in social forces as well as diseases
affected by the low levels of education among the people. Fertility and immigration rates are
also the pivotal factors behind the socioeconomic conditions of the people which is lower
than other races (Lubin, 2014).
Health promotion activities for the Hispanic/Latino minority populations
According to Pender’s revised Health Promotion Model, there has been promotion of
the lifestyles as well as biophysical measures among the Hispanic adults (Heydari &
Khorashadizadeh, 2014). Among the various health promotion strategies for the Hispanic
and the Latino people are the health promoting lifestyle II which helps in measuring the
frequency of various health promoting behaviours and it helps in reflecting the extent to
which people usually actively engage in the health promotion activities. Moreover, these help
in providing the baseline data for helping inform development of health promotion activities.
