INTRODUCTION
Academic misconduct refers to an action which can provide an unfair academic benefit or
loss to any member of academic community (Parnther, 2020). Such kind of actions influences
the integrity of educational institutes and their purpose. Such practices must be strictly prohibited
by the universities so that education can truly develop ethics and moral in developing
professionals. Academic integration is not only vital for the development of student but also for
the growth of society which depends upon the continuous learning and education process. This
report will discuss the importance of academic integrity and various implications of misconducts.
It will also include the reflection on skills and learning gained throughout the module.
SECTION 1
Academic integrity
Academic integrity is defined as the moral or ethical practice code which guide students to
practice their academic work with responsibility, honesty and fairness. It also demonstrates the
commitment of an individual to showcase and practice moral and honest behaviour in academic
settings. Through academic integrity it is expected that all academic activities such as
examinations, assignments, thesis research and seminars are performed by students at their own
without shifting it to others. There are several ways through which academic integrity can be
breached such as by means of agreement between students, ghost writing, cheating in academic
practices and by plagiarism (Ransome and Newton, 2018). The violation of integrity can affect
the knowledge gaining process as well as trustworthy image of university. The community or the
employer may not find the graduates trustworthy or valuable for their development.
Another benefit of implementing academic integrity is that it allows an individual to
generate new ideas. It teaches several values to students that how they can build a progressive
path for their career and how they can give credit or value to the one who have done sincere
work in their respective field. Dishonest behaviour and actions can undermine credibility and
learning of student and can also threaten the public reputation of the learner as well as university.
For social wellbeing also it is crucial that people must have faith in educational endeavours.
Academic integrity of work also signifies that individual has earned necessary skills and
qualifications and has potential to face threats and opportunities of professional life (Chauhan
and et.al., 2018).
