GEOGRAPHY OF CANADA 2
Introduction
Western Mountains (Cordillera)
Cordillera is a vast region characterized by large water bodies and many mountains. It
is basically comprised of three major cities which include: Vancouver, Dawson and Mexico
City. Some of the provinces present in this city include Yukon Territory and British
Columbia (Clasen & Shurin, 2015). The water which flows from mountains from the east
westwards deposits in the James Bay, arctic oceans, Gulf of Mexico and the Hudson Bay
(Bronson ET AL., 2013).
Climate
The region experiences a range of climates, with regards to the region of positioning.
However, it is largely influenced by a large body of water, which implies that it has a
maritime climate. During the winter, a lot of rain is experienced in the regions near the
shores, while the summers are cooler. On the inland zones, there is very heavy snowfall in the
mountains. Due to the elevation, the uppers parts of the mountains seems to be very cold.
During the months of the winter, the temperatures along the Yukon territory tends to go
below zero degrees (Coomes et al., 2013).
Dominant economic activities in the region
Most of the economic activities which are practiced in this region are largely
influenced by the nature of the environment, the natural resources which are mostly present
in this area. There are a lot of economic activities which are practiced in this region. This is
due to the mountains, water bodies, and wildlife in the region. However, it is significant to
note that most of the activities are practiced in the seasons of spring, summer, and the fall
months. Winter is termed to be too cold for undertaking the activities. The activities include
fishing, tourist attraction sites from the many wildlife’s and natural scenery, sailing, surfing,
as well as going to the beach (Corsi et al., 2014).

Rivers and the hydroelectric industry
There are many sources of rivers in this region, which significantly influences the
hydroelectric industry. A number of factories are built near these river sources which
employs a great number of individuals. Additionally, some of the rivers are dammed in order
to allow the provision of the hydroelectric power (Coulthard & Smith, 2016). Fish and the fishing industry
There are many rivers, lakes and the Pacific Ocean, which is located in this region.
These water bodies act as a good source of fish and particularly salmon fish. The salmon fish
often travel from the oceans to the rivers to lay their eggs, making it easier for them to be
caught at the mouth of the rivers and lakes. This creates a fishing industry that employs a
number of people as the fish is transported all over the world (Graham, Ashworth, &
Tunbridge, 2016). Forests
The region is mostly covered with a lot of forests, which is of great significance. In
the nineteenth century, wood from this place was used to supply fast-growing towns.
Currently, the place has paper and wood industries which export wood and paper all over the
world. As a fact, its contribution makes Canada the largest forest products exporter in the
world (Jancowski & Orchard, 2013). Mining industries;
In this region alone, there are more than 14000 mineral deposits. For instance, it is the
largest copper producer in Canada. The mining of these minerals creates a lot of job
opportunities for the people around. Other minerals which are present in this place include
silver, coal, and gold (Kershaw, Castleden, & Laroque, 2014). Agriculture
