INTRODUCTION
Global economy can be defined as interconnection between economic activities of
multiple countries that resulted in having equal distribution of resources for satisfaction of
individual needs. So it involves exchange of products and services across countries so that
requirements of customers can be fulfilled in the best possible manner. This is research proposal
of Tesco which is multinational company operating in retail sector of United Kingdom and
different countries to earn high profit margin. So, it has covered crucial information related to
international marketing strategies that could be used by Tesco in order to expand its business in
international market.
BACKGROUND
With globalization, companies are planning to expand their business operations across
worldwide in order to fulfil needs of range of people in effective manner. Company in order to
survive in global environment needs to adapt to external factors such as policies of government,
taste and preferences of customers and technology. Thus, it has to understand key issue or trends
in global environment and find alternative method that could be used to cope up with them for
benefits of firm (Falahat, Knight and Alon, 2018). Tesco has limited presence in international
market so it is planning to expand it for getting more and more customers in the company.
Therefore, the proposal has included information related to strategies that could be used by
organization to retained its market share in global environment for longer time frame.
AIM AND OBJECTIVE

To analysis several market entry strategies that could be used by firm to expand its
business in international market. A study of Tesco.

To analysis current trends in global environment impacting on company operations.
To evaluate market entering strategies that could be used by firm.
To identified challenges that will be faced by company while expanding its business in

To suggest strategies that could be used by Tesco to grow and expand operations for

RATIONALE
The study related to “company must have effective entry strategies to maintain and
sustain its competitive advantages in global environment” is important because it helps in
understanding strategies or method that could be used to expand business. Moreover, it leads in
identifying all trends or key issue that are face by company in international market thus they can
easily plan appropriate course of action to cope up with the same. In addition to this, in recent
scenario, with increase in competition level and globalization, there are many companies that are
planning to expand business (Khan, Lew and Rao-Nicholson, 2020). Thus, the study will helpful
to senior executive, management and other stakeholders of company in taking appropriate
decision related to the way it can make use of particular marketing strategies to achieve the end
goals.
LITERATURE REVIEW
From the view points of Erokhin, (2017) there are numerous trends in global environment
that affects company operations and growth so it has to quickly adapt them to retained
competitive advantages in external environment. Likewise, in recent scenario, most of the
customers wants to have more healthy and organic food products in order to stay healthy and fit
for longer time frame. Covid-19 has resulted in influencing individuals to have online shopping
so that they can get products at their doorsteps by staying safe and secure at home. Another trend
is that due to low disposable income they also want qualitative products at reasonable prices so
that they can have the same. Further, another author also supports that policies and rule ad
regulation has been keep on changing such as Brexit has been imposed on United Kingdom. That
has resulted in decreasing overall sales volume of company as maximum export of companies
was with European countries. So it has forced other firm to grow and expand business in
international market to sustain competitive advantages and enjoy higher return.

Moreover, Wegapitiya and Dissanayake, (2018), has stated that there has been rapid
development in technology that has forced companies to effectively adapt them to provide
qualitative services to customers. Such as many of the organization has started making use of
digital technology to promote its products and services to wide range of people so that it can earn
higher profitability. Organization have also started making use of social media platform and
email marketing to connect with customers so that they can be influence to be part of particular
organization as compared to others. Companies by making use of different platform like
instragram, facebook and twitter to make post is able to attract maximum number of customers
from across worldwide. Official website of firm also have clear detail related to products and
services in which it deals so that customers may review and select for satisfaction of their
respective requirements. Email is also another best medium that has been helped in building and
retaining strong relationship with customers so that they are motivated to be part of organization.
Therefore, all technological advancement trends are impacting on business operations that are
working in international market.
As illustrated by Wu and Wang, (2021), there are numerous issue that are face by
companies in global environment such as increase competition level, changing customers
preferences and quick development in existing technologies. Companies that wants to retain
competitive positioning in international market has to find alternative method or solution to cope
up with issue for benefits of firm. Likewise, they should start providing organic food range,
maximum use of innovative technology, abiding to social and ethical responsibilities so that no
harm can be caused to any individual in any circumstance. Thereby as per the author perspective
it will help company in growing its operations across worldwide and achieving the end goals.
According to the Masiero, Ogasavara and Risso, (2017), market entry strategies refers to
method that has been plan by the manager of company related to the way products and services
will be exported to other countries for effective satisfaction of customers wants. Some of the
marketing entry strategies that can be adapted by the company are exporting, joint venture and
buying a company to grow its business in international market. Further, it has specified that
exporting is direct method of selling products into the new market thus it involves less cost and
efforts in expansion of business in global market. Joint venture is another market entry strategies
that could be used by enterprise in which two organization make partnership with each other and
developed third party. Thus, joint venture involves sharing of risk and profitability of company

on equal basis. Masiero, Ogasavara and Risso, (2017), also stated that buying a company is also
marketing entry strategy in which one firm plan to make purchase of another organization or its
acquisition in order to grow business in new country. Company is able to have local market
knowledge, taste and preferences of people and can easily take benefits of established brand
image of the company. Moreover, such firm are treated by government as local organization so it
acts as an opportunity for the company to attained its goals in limited time frame. Therefore, it
may be used by global companies such as Tesco, ASDA and Sainsbury while planning
international market entry strategy.
On the other hand, Hilmersson and et.al., (2021) has explained that there are many other
possible market entry strategies that could be used by enterprise to easily grow and expand its
business. Likewise, piggybacking is another alternative option that could be used by firm in
which that is suitable for company that is planning to sell unique and differentiate products and
services to customers in foreign market. So, Tesco through innovative its products and method of
delivering services can easily grow its operations easily in international market. Apart from it,
the companies have option to select franchising strategy such as firm by giving intellectual
property right to franchisee is able to attract range of customers from worldwide. The franchisor
while allowing the right to sell its products and services to other company demand for particular
amount of return. This method or strategy is only useful when company either have strong brand
image or unique distribution channel so that it can get maximum benefits. Thus, it is the best
method as company can easily expand in different parts of the world through allowing other
company to sell its products and giving a percentage of profit to it.
In addition to this, Ekanem and Uwajeh, (2017), also illustrated that company may make
use of foreign direct investment strategies to expand business operations to maximum extend. In
it company many direct investment in foreign market therefore require huge amount of capital,
labour and technology to complete all the task. Thus, it can be stated that it involves high cost
and risk for business so it must have appropriate knowledge of market condition or preference of
customers. While, licensing is sophisticated market entry strategy in firm transfer rights of uses
of products or services to another firms. In addition to this, the licensing is useful strategy for
company that have relative large market share in market that company wants to expand. Thus, it
can easily grow operations in international market through making use of licensing thereby
enjoying huge profitability.

imposed high taxes and tariff barrier in order to protect local company from tough competition in
the market. Thus, it had lead in adding more cost or expense to company and attracting less
number of customers to be part of organization for satisfaction of their respective requirements.
