environmental factors Political, Economic, Sociological, Technological, Legal and
Environmental that can influence an organization of an event externally.
 SWOT analysis can be defined as an strategic method which is used for evaluation of
Strengths, Weaknesses, (Internal) Opportunities and Threats (External Factors) that
exist for an organization or of a project or of an event.
 It helps an organization to align their objectives with their organizational strength.
 Here, PESTLE and SWOT analysis of Olympics events will be discussed and other
than this critical evaluation of criteria that are essential for the successful planning of

 Olympics are leading international sports events featuring summer and winter sports competition

 The Olympics games are held every 4 years, with the summer and winter games alternating by
occurring every four years but two years apart.
Negative:
 Olympics are affecting environmental surroundings in many ways. Because of this event
emission of green house gases has increased which is further depleting ozone layer.
 Other than this high energy consumption disposable waste has also increased because of which
garbage and waste products are increasing.

Influence on decision making
 Impact of these positive and negative impacts of Olympics which is further impact the
macro environment is major.
 This has influenced decision making as well in many ways such as:
 Government is focusing on enhancing laws related to environment so that impact of
these events on the environment can be reduced.
 Most of the event organizers are focusing in implementing waste management
strategies so that usage of plastic can be reduced, reduction in disposable waste can be
achieved.

 These factors all about how and to what degree a government intervenes in the economy. Government

include environmental laws, political stability etc. Political factors control global events.
Economic factors:-
 The economic value of Olympics has increased dramatically over time, largely because of the
telecommunication revolution and the increased amounts paid for nation and international broadcast rights.
 Revenue has increased from television broadcast rights. Cities pursue the Olympic games for three reasons
– tourism, image and regeneration.
 The rise of tourism and response to it by nations, is a clear indication that international economy has
changed.

 The extreme magnitude of the games has made them much more than the greatest

other so many changes has been done through technology.

 There should not be discrimination in Olympic events. There should be fair judgement. There should not be

 Here are few recommendations that can be used as improvement solutions for

successful planning of events
There are following criteria’s that can be used for successful event planning that can impact
and event’s both internal and external environment are:
 Planning is first and the foremost criteria that can affect an event’s internal and external
environment. In the planning phase both goal and objectives of an event should be
developed and evaluated.
 Second is to evaluate number of stakeholders involved and roles and responsibilities of
those stakeholders so that duties and responsibilities can be divided within all the
stakeholders. This will help in successful fulfilment of event requirements.
 Next is to evaluate the overall budget, venue and schedule of the event. It is one of the
main criteria based on which success of an event is dependent. Because if the event
venue is not easily accessible or the schedule of the event is not suitable for the guest
then they won’t be able to attend the event.

 From the above presentation it has been summarized that there are various factors
because of which Olympics event can be impacted both positively and negatively.
 It has been analysed that the governmental influence of the host country where
Olympics is organized can affect organizing of Olympics events drastically.

safety and security features as it is a mega event and there are chances of threat of
